Thursday's was mainly an open card with graded
fillers.
After showing bundles of early pace on his debut, All
Shaped Up was sent off Evens in the opening A9. He didn't ping
the lids this time, but his early took him to the front. However, he
never got away from the field and Granary
Girl took over on the run in. All
Shaped Up may have needed this after his 26 day break.
The Div 2 430m race looked a somewhat tricky event
beforehand, with only Jangos
Hero having course and distance experience. Jangos
Hero led round, but was easily swept aside by Fivestar
Oak. The punters got it right as the 5/4 jolly obliged. Of
course, he's A1 at the track and probably possessed the best form,
but you never know whether the 475 form will translate to this trip.
Mostly, it simply doesn't.
Dixies
Woods broke well in the hurdles open and looked in a position to
score, but he was a little outpaced rounding the first two turns and
was done from behind, if you'll pardon the expression. Strong
Flow forced his way to the front and held on from the staying on
Wol.
This was Strong
Flow 27th win from 76 W'stow starts.
Ask
The Question was sent off fours on and duly obliged in the puppy
stayers event. Few would have envisaged him making such heavy
weather of it. Dangerous
Lady towed him round to the back straight for the final time and
when Ask
The Question hit the front, most would have expected him to pull
clear. However, he was very laboured and held on by a short head.
Many thought he'd been beat, though I burgled 2/1 off a mate in the
photo. He's a lot better that this and presumably needed this run.
Broadacres
Rob made all in the Div 3 standard. I can't see there can have
been much action in the ring on this race, as all of the field bar Satchmo
had had some sort of layoff. Broadacres
Rob has a fast time at Nottingham on his card and I'm sure Mr
Gaskin will do well with him. Blackstone
Billy drove the bend well after a slow start and kept on for
second, without ever looking likely to get on terms with the leader.
Westmead
Prince (from trap one) looked a good bet to me beforehand in the
Div one 430m race and when Millions
Girl (trap two) fell out of the traps and Westmead
Prince started well, it looked even better! Trap one in the 430m
races is worth a few lengths and this boy didn't need a second
invitation. This was his 3rd win from 3 races at the track. I have
no idea why Kilgraney
Agassi was raced over this trip, as he was always going to
struggle, as he's not a dog that traps well. He picked the rest up
late to finish a remote second.
Genesis
Alix made all in the marathon. En
It was crowded at the second bend, but again looked pretty one
paced in second. Romford
Carthree has fell out of love with the game and looks like one
to avoid on this showing.
Ronnies
Hustle was sent off far too short for my liking in the puppy
standard. He didn't break too well, but his early pace took him to
the front. He made all from Barnfield
Mike, who kept on for second. In my experience, taking short
prices on puppies is not a good way to bet. I do have a very strong
liking for this puppy though.
Killer Keane and Blonde Ben were non runners in
the Div 2 standard. The reserves, Ronnies
Hotstuff and Barnfield
Joe made the race competitive. Barnfield
Joe had run a couple of good races at the track and Ronnies
Hotstuff had shown good sectionals in his trials. Directors
Choice was still sent off pretty short and he lacked middle pace
after leading and was badly crowded at the 3rd bend, when beginning
to come again after being headed. Barnfield
Joe ran on and led from the 3rd bend and Ronnies
Hotstuff follwed him home, coming out the best of a collision
with Directors
Choice.
Droopys
Command set a good pace up front in the 640m open. Heavy
Weather showed fair pace and led on the back straight. Neither
saw the trip out too strongly, with Heavy
Weather winning the battle by 3/4 of a length.
In
the veterans event, Show
Vision showed good early pace, but dived for the rails and was
badly crowded on the run up. I'm convinced that she would have led
round from a rails draw and she may be interesting in the coming
weeks. Wheres
Yer Man was the main sufferer inside Show
Vision and did well to get to the front. However after suffering
the early bump, Wheres
Yer Man couldn't contain Caulry
Fast Trap, who took over at the 3rd bend. Caulry
Fast Trap got a charmed run round the first two bends and will
not always be so fortunate.
Rooster
Nosey swung round in front in the Div one standard. Farloe
Rooney showed good pace sown the back straight and took over at
the 3rd bend. Rooster
Nosey held on for second as Quivers
Punch ran on after suffering trouble at the second bend.
The
A3 looked a modest event beforehand and was further weakened by the
withdrawal of Allgaze Roman. Lagile
Tomo led to near the 3rd bend, but faded on the run in, after
being headed by Fenland
Lark, who won comfortably.
Charlies
Dart started best in the closing S2, but was quickly swamped for
pace by practically the while field. Mystical
Sloth led from the second and won easily enough, despite running
wide at the last bend. Mystical
Class plugged on for second.
