Classy pups on show,
with an open looking final on Saturday to look forward to.
Walthamstow Report
25 Sep 2007
Tuesday featured the semi finals of the VC Bet
puppy comp and some very moderate graded stuff. The ground was
double fast. (Firm - concrete)
An incident packed
opening A9 enabled
Special Jag to make a winning debut. He got a very clear
run and showed some pace to lead from the 3rd bend. His half brother
Special Playboy followed him home. These are two more from the
Dogolphin empire of Gary Noble.
Pyrotechnic sluiced home in the 5 runner A9, winning by 7
lengths. His trainer put the syndicate owners away, so who knows
what to expect next time.
Witches Petal stayed on for second.
The first heat of
the VC Bet puppy comp saw a major upset. Westmead
Keawn broke modestly, showed some pace to the first bend and led
off the second bend. However, he was never travelling well and Heavy
Weather picked him up on the run in. Heavy
Weather ran well and the time was a hard to believe 28.58.
Westmead
Kewell kept on for 3rd after a modest start. (2 qualify)
The H2 was taken by
Castleivy Sand. He led up, was outpaced early, then ran on and
led from the 3rd bend. The bizarrely named
Dannys Do Do kept on and grabbed 2nd.
Benro Rocks got a clear run and led from the second to land the
second A9.
Megusta Manners moved off at the bend and kept on for second.
The A8 saw a few leaders. First up was
Toosey Lyn, who collapsed from the third bend after leading to
that point.
Smooth Cantona showed some pace from the 1st bend and led at the
third.
Granary Smurf started slowly and ran on and led near the line.
The A7 also saw a few leaders.
Redec Liz led first, but was poor from the second bend.
Canary Tide took over, but ran wide at the last bend.
Craigdales Ruby kept on, led near the line and won the race by a
head.
Droopys Lotto, who ran well on his debut last time was sent off
11/10 jolly. He took the bend well and made all to land the A5.
Any Ceilidh was bumped at the second bend and plugged on for
second.
Sparta Master led round in the A3. He ran out of gas and faded
from the 3/4.
Hillcross Silk came to challenge and had a dwell up. This
allowed
Poacher Man to stay on and lead near the line.
Fivestar Oak was an impressive winner of the A2. After an
average start, he unleashed some decent EP and made all.
Pennys Vixen ran really well in second, losing out by a neck.
In
the second semi final, there was another surprise result. Secretariat
produced a superb break and made all, recording 28.82. Droopys
Curbs started slowly and suffered interference at the 3rd bend
and on the run in. He came home really well, but could not get on
terms with the winner. He's the fastest in the comp, but while he's
prone to miss the break, he's beatable. Journey
East ran very well indeed to finish 3rd. There's a few faster
than him in the comp, but this run augurs well for his future. (2
qualify)
In the 3rd semi, despite being bumped on
the run up, Droopys
Mate got to the front off the 2nd bend. Many tought he was home
& hosed from that point, but Westmead
Tina had other ideas. Westmead
Tina broke averagely, and went to the bend well. She flew down
the back straight and led from the 3rd. Droopys
Mate didn't look right coming home and didn't go down to the
pick up in her usual style, suggesting all was not well. Clonbrin
Mai ran ok in 3rd. (2 qualify)
Fionntra Stacey made all in the S3 finale.
Cutie Pie stayed on from off the pace to finish a neck second.
