Thursday's card was mainly an open card,
containing a few maidens.
A double upgrade did not
stop Miss
Rapid, who made all the running to land the opening P6. Miss
Rapid is by Mrs Bishop, who has thrown open racers Get On
Blackie and Miss Modesty. It was a 1-2 for the Cahill kennel, as Journey
Time followed her home a length behind. Journey
Time (from trap 3) looked particularly unlucky, as So
Said He ran middle from trap two and impeded him all the way to
the bend. Journey
Time is by Farnans Moyne, dam of Journey North.
Westmead
Prince defied a tricky looking trap three draw in the 430m open.
On his last visit to the track, he was modestly away and made the
most of his trap one draw. Tonight, he pinged from trap three and
made all. That Mega Delight is not a bad dam, is she? :) Funny
Poppet benefited from a trap one draw and ran a fair race in
second.
Snazzy
Time was sent off a very short looking 4/7 shot in the hurdles
open. He's changed his style of running and no longer seems to be
able to get to the front early on too often. There was a fair bit of
trouble in the race and Snazzy
Time hit the front between the last two turns. However, he was
probably getting tired as he hit the last flight and handed the
advantage to Strong
Flow. Strong
Flow had led and dwelt in front, but took up the running over
the last flight.
Droopys
Liberty hit the front between the first two bends in Div 1 of
the novice stayers stakes, but seemed to have a dwell up in front
near the 5th bend. Droopys
Boss swept by at the 5th for a comfortable success, at a
generous looking 2/1. Wheres
The Girls threatened to challenge at the 5th bend, but failed to
see out the trip.
The first of the maidens (Div 3)
looked a fairly tricky race for the locals to solve, as none of the
contestants had raced at the Stow, and only three of them had
trialled. Lightfoot
George had run 28.91 at Limerick (equivalent to A3 by my
reckoning) and this looked the best form on offer. After a modest
start, Lightfoot
George paced up well to the first bend and made all. He did tie
up from the last bend and the slow starting Cape
Spring ran on to reduce the margin to half a length.
Dysert
Cara made all in the Div 2 maiden. Directors
Choice came to challenge at the 3rd bend, but was clumsy and
crowded. He still got to within a neck of the winner and was a
little unlucky. Lagile
Tomo seemed to hit the brakes at the first two turns and plugged
on for third.
Vigorous
Zico started fast in the Div 2 standard, but ran wide and opened
the door for Courts
Ad Queen. Courts
Ad Queen proved the stronger off the second bend and won quite
well. Lively
Arthur recently did the 480m clock at Nottingham and kept on
well in second. I'm told that this distance at Nottingham is not
used that often. Julies
Protege had been in flying form before this step up in class.
She was outclassed here though, but ran ok in third.
Cassie
led from the 4th bend and won the novice marathon as a 4/7 favvy. Centaur
Fuji made a decent race of it and went down by 2 1/4 lengths.
The pair of them pulled right away from the rest of them.
Westmead
Keawn started modestly and unleashed a decent spurt of early
pace to lead from the first. Westmead
Keawn is yet another Mega Delight pup. I was
speaking to a chap on VC Grand Prix night, who'd seen all of her
litters. He was convinced that this litter was the best that he had
seen. Dark
Fantasy ran well and followed him home a length and a quarter
behind. This was a length and a half closer than last time they met
here. Two real quality pups indeed.
Crying
Shame put in a fast run in the maiden standard. She flew out of
the traps and made all. This was her 7th win from 17 starts. Bigwood
Sheriff was running on, but was clumsy and KO'd between the last
two bends. Blacknotblue
plugged on to finish a remote second.
The next 640 open was a shocker. They all bunched
up at the 5th bend and Emporio
Rebel led on the run in to win in a slow time.
Cobra
Striking was fast away (as usual) in the next 475 open. However,
he swung wide at the last bend and faded on the run in. Caulry
Fast Trap stayed on well and led on the run in. The winning time
was a decent 28.70.
Funky
Lass showed just about the best early pace and led round in the
A6. Molly
Alice showed decent pace down the back straight and led from
between the last two bends. Raise
Your Game stayed on for second.
Big
Break broke modestly in the closing Div 2 6 bend open, but paced
up well and led off the second bend. He won a modest race here from Fine
Dancer, who switched behind in the run in. April
Fizz showed more interest in Big
Break, than running a race and faded from the 5th bend.
