Floats
like a Butterfly, stings like a Bee, Ali shows immense promise over
6 bends
Walthamstow Report
02 Aug 2007
Thursday's card was an ok open card, with a few
moderate maidens.
Boy
Becca broke best in the opening 430m open, but never
looked likely to hold on as Legal Major
swung round in a possy after a modest start. There was no sign of
the checking tonight and Legal Major
ruined them.
Many expected Ronaldos
Merit to step up on his early promise tonight and he was
sent off 7/4 jolly in the Div 2 maiden. Hypatia
Blue led him for a bit, but Ronaldos
Merit showed the better EP to lead round. Ronaldos
Merit never got away from the field and Emporio
Fitzroy ran past him on the run in. Hypatia
Blue grabbed second as Ronaldos
Merit faded.
Eye
Onthe Power made all in the Div 3 640 race. Aranock
Sand swung round with every chance in behind, but again
was none too fluent at the 5th bend. Synone
Rubin showed some middle pace, but faded on the run in.
Custom
Paul ran out an impressive all the way winner in the
hurdles open. There was no time to dwell tonight, as none of the
field had the pace to get alongside Custom
Paul. For a certain leader, I was very surprised to see Custom
Paul sent off a 7/2 shot tonight. Lodge
Mentor kept on well for second. Blackmagic
Jamie paced up well in the latter stages of the races,
but didn't need much of an invitation to duck out of it.
Cobra
Striking had such a poor record at the Stow, he was
demoted to Division THREE! He made a mockery of this insult
to bolt out and ruin the field. Cobra
Striking is a prolific scorer at the Stow and it's
grossly unfair to the other runners in the Div 2 & 3 Stow opens,
that he is allowed to run in them. The Stow have a problem in
framing these races, in that Seamus Cahill and Mark Wallis have all
the top dogs and their top division could easily turn into a match 3
v 3! Satchmo kept on well for second.
In an uncompetitive
novice stayers open, Butterbridge Ali
put in a very promising effort indeed. After an average start, he
unleashed a superb burst of early pace and quickly put his rivals to
the sword. As well as impressing during the race, albeit with little
competition, he impressed me after the race. He seemed to have
plenty left in the tank after the line. His early pace could enable
him to take high rank amongst the stayers and I'd like to think that
he'll win a few comps in the coming months.
Ronnies
Hustle showed his previous run at the Stow to be all
wrong, when landing a battling win in the puppy standard. He
led up, despite being bumped on the run up and dug out a bit more as
both Westmead Meg and Tiger
Scot came at him. Sadly, Westmead
Meg had a major tear up after the race was over. (Hurdles
beckons) Ronnies Hustle
has a very good Lifford run on his card.
Fear Robben
returned to somewhere near his best when landing a runaway success
in the Div 1 trial stakes. He broke averagely and showed a bright
turn of early speed and ran right away from the field. He won by 12
1/4 lengths from Hampton Vieri,
who plugged on for second. Westmead Olivia
started very slowly and didn't see which way FR went.
Following
his headline grabbing run last week, Milldean
Flash again impressed in the Div 2 standard. He showed
dazzling early pace and made all. Astute
Gift was perhaps a little unlucky as he broke best, but
quickly suffered interference as he went to the rails. Risk
Related broke ok, but drifted off at the 2nd bend and
kept on best of the others for second.
Wheres
Yer Man destroyed them in the Veterans event. He broke
superbly and didn't see another rival.
Snappy
Girl made all in the marathon. Confident
Foe stayed on for second. Jangos
Snowdrop made some late ground from well off the pace. Mitzie
ran a shocker.
Noirs Ted
led them up again in the Div 1 standard. He again failed to sustain
the gallop and got caught on the run in. He has failed to build on
his impressive comeback run. Venturemore
turned handy and capitalised on Noirs Ted
running out of petrol and led on the run in. Dilemmas
Flight stayed on for second.
Brick
improved upon last weeks run and ran out an impressive winner of the
Div 1 maiden. He came back to the file on the run in and
Form Of Love ran him to 3/4 of a length.
Fear
Martina had showed some improved at Crayford and returned
to the Stow in the Div 2 640 open. She put in a blinding effort.
Outpacing Discreet Cat on the
run to the turn is no mean feat. She accomplished that and ran out
an impressive winner. Discreet Cat kept
on to finish a 4 3/4 length second.
