Tuesday featured some puppy open trials stakes and
some grim graded fayre.
There was a distinct
lack of early pace in the opening A9. Hillcross
Mary and Lufar
broke slightly faster than the others and the favourite Lufar
took up the running and ran comfortably despite running wide at the
last bend. Hillcross
Mary was outpaced early and ran moderately. Alders
Beauty was very slow away and kept on for second. Kensington
Mal ran a shocker.
Fleur
De Lys started best in the second thrilling A9. Courage
Best started modestly, showed some pace to the first bend and
took up the running at the 3rd bend to go on to score. There was a
pile up at the 3rd bend between Sweetoothboy
(who was staying on), Reachfar
Oasis and Emly
Exile (who weren't doing a lot), and Carrowkeal
Nick, who showed a bit of early after a modest break, but was
one paced on the back straight and going nowhere when smashed up. (I
can't believe I wrote that much about an A9)
White
Wanda broke best in the A8 and led to the second bend, but was
poor thereafter. Feedback
took up the running at the second bend and led to the run in. Feedback's
6 wins from 44 have come over shorter trips. Cutie
Pie ran on and led on the run in and pulled clear. Cutie
Pie's had only won one of her 15 races prior to coming to the
Stow, a Sheffield handicap. 29.37in an A8, mmm 50 fast? (Official is
normal on the BGRB website. I cannot believe that this is what will
go into the form book)
The S6 (I mean S3, honest!)
was won by Off
Course, who led at the 5th bend after Tinky
Rolls failed to get home. Toosey
Tina was an unlucky loser. She broke in the front rank and was impeded
from behind. She gallantly kept on for second after losing a fair
bit of ground and should soon win in this grade.
Bonnie
Time started well and made all to land the A7. Touchwood
Dream was modestly away and showed some pace to the first. He
has an ungainly action and could not/would not get past Bonnie
Time, after holding every chance. Special
Vision stayed on for second.
Kinda
Sure led up after crowding on the run up and made all in the Div
3 puppy open. Droopys
Boss was very slow away and was badly crowded at the second (may
have had a look), before making some late ground to grab a long 3rd.
Bigwood
Sheriff is a nutcase. He swerved right, left , then right again,
running into everything he could! He has some pace and still managed
second place. A geezer at the track suggested that he should go to
Brough Park for the handicaps, where he would find more room with
the staggered traps! Don't back any dog drawn next to this one!
Clonbrin
Mai was modestly away in the A6, but stayed on to win the race
very comfortably. She did not beat much at all here though. Rough
Deano eased as he challenged at the 3rd bend. Our
Dog Brandy led briefly at half way, despite running in slow
motion throughout.
Milldean
Buster had run some good trials at both Shelbourne Park and
Walthamstow and looked to have a fair opportunity on his race debut
at the Stow. He broke slower that he had been in his W'stow trials,
but still had enough early pace to get to the front, and make all.
Seamus does not normally have them too wound up for their first race.
He can build on this and should win a good few more races.
Droopys
Kan Kan made all to land the S1. The race was reduced to five
runners, as Rockchase Alice was withdrawn lame. Eye
Onthe Jewel was not fluent round the bends and Be
Wise Lady eased at the 5th bend and ran moderately.
Cracking
Ceilidh made the early running in the A6, but faded near the
line. Gleaming
Carly started slowly and kept on until leading on the run in. Gleaming
Carly was clumsy between the last two bends when holding a
chance of getting involved.
In the S3 finale, King
And Tinker led up but did not get the trip and faded from the
last bend. Moynevilla
Robin was very slow away and stayed on to lead on the run in.
