Saturday featured an open card, with the final
of the Ocean Trailers puppy open race final
The author has had one over the eight tonight,
lost his programme and is doing a report from an iffy memory, on an
evening where he did not play in hardly any races. I may update this
report. (That's the excuses out of the way!)
Legal
Major missed the break in the opening
435m open and Pork
Pie needed no second invitation, Pork
Pie made all.
Monte
Alban had been in a rich vein of form, but was up in class here.
He missed the break and was crowded on the run up and never got a
look in. The expensive purchase, Deanridge
Newman started to prove his worth with a smooth success. I'm
told his tonsils were taken out prior to this run, but have no idea
of the significance of this. (Didn't seem to do him any harm)
Moveit
Desna made all in the 5th race, can't say I remember it too
much. She had dipped under 40 seconds in a trial and had won 3/10 of
her previous races, equating to A1 and S1 and so this win was
perhaps no surprise.
Can't say I remember this one
to well from the perspective of the winner. I think she got a clear
run to lead at the second bend from memory, but I would not bet on
it. Harrys
Girl won the event. Who
Needs Wings was very slow away and came home strongly when the
race was all over. Discreet
Cat showed some EP, but was again a very long way from fluent at
the bends. His class still took him to within a couple of lengths of
the winner.
Ceroc
Gypsy missed the break, was smashed up at the second bend, but
still turned handy. She took it up at the 5th band to land short
odds comfortably.
Ronnies
Callum made all in the hurdles event. There was trouble in
behind and Wol
kept on best of the others for second.
Big
Brett Coal was an impressive winner in the 9th race, leading
early and pulling away from his field. . Big
Brett Coal has come back to form after a spell in the doldrums
and is racking up a very good sequence.
Crust
Breaker was a shock winner, when making all in the 10th. Journey
North was only beaten a length in second, but was not striding
out at all fluently.
Westminster
Taj made a lot of the running in the marathon, before Confident
Foe took over near the line in a scramble for the finish. I
think if you ran the race again, you could easily have got a
different result, with a number in with a chance off the last bend.
Centaur
Decree stamped his class on the Ocean Trailers puppy stakes
final. He produced a smart break and kicked right away from his
rivals. He did of course have an easy time of it really, after the
shocks in the semi final. It was a shame not to see those quality
pups Directors
Chair and Butterbridge
Ali in the final. I don't think that I called Directors
Chair's run in the comp at all well in hindsight. When Killer
Keane showed the EP against him in an early round and hammered
into him at the second bend, I think I underestimated his run badly.
Directors
Chair is a really good dog.
Optimistic
Berty led up and made most of the running in the 13th race,
before Emporio
Jet gave the layers another good result. January
Tiger was surprisingly sent off favourite and looks like she
surely needs a break.
Lonely
Harry sent home favourite backers happy with an all-the-way
success in the finale in a modest 40.30.
