Centaur Decree the
new favourite, after a night of shocks.
Walthamstow Report
24 Apr 2007
Tuesday featured the second round heats of the
Ocean trailers puppy comp and some modest graded racing to fill in the
gaps.
Sadly there were three semi finals. I
personally much prefer an even number of heats, the bookies must
love this format.
The opening P9 was won by Tadgells
Ollie who produced a decent break and made all. Tadgells
Ollie is a son of the magnificent Fire Height Dan. I'm not sure
why people talk of the sire so much. In my view, much of the quality
comes from the Dam. Threshers
Flyer was a decent grader at Walthamstow. Ants
Gunner was slow away, slightly crowded at the first bend and
stayed on. I'm not a fan of this one.
There
was a distinct lack of early pace in the A8 and Lycon
Ned managed to lead after an average break. Warrior
Sumo went rails and smashed into Sarahs
Joe at the start and was also erratic at the first corner. This
heavyweight may make things tough for both himself and some of his
rivals in future races.
Bucks
Euro showed some early pace after a modest start to make all in
the A7. Bucks
Euro recorded a fair 29.44 Limerick as a youngster, but had been
missing from action for a long while. Fair play to connections, who
managed to get him ready after such a long break. He did not beat
much to be honest. Laurens
Fortune was slow away and kept on for second.
Canary
Fantasy made all to tweet her rivals with contempt in the S3. Canary
Fantasy is owned by Freddie Honour, who has been an owner for
god know how many years. He has supported John Coleman for many of
those years and has had some superb greyhounds, which included the
likes of Hypnotic Stag and many other besides. The old dweller Pigalle
Rainbow plugged on for second.
Ballymac
Daisy made all in the A6 event (yawn). Zu
Yi was modest away, showed some early pace, but could not get on
terms with Ballymac
Daisy.
On to the first round of the Ocean Trailers
puppy comp, surely a synch for Butterbridge
Ali, after his brilliant effort last week? I'm sorry to say that
it was anything but. Butterbridge
Ali produced a modest break, showed a semblance of early pace,
but never looked likely to get to the front. He was not at all
fluent rounding the first two bends and ran well below par. Lockwood
Littljo ran really well last week to the 3rd bend last week,
before Butterbridge
Ali ironed him out. With Butterbridge
Ali not at the races, Lockwood
Littljo broke well, railed wonderfully and made all. Siesta
Romeo kept on for second. The time was moderate and these lads
need to improve significantly to play a part in the event proper.
Back to the grade stuff and True
Kewell set the pace in the A5, before fading between the last
two bends and finishing down the field. Swift
Satin ran wide at a few bends, but still had enough in the tank
after leading between the last two turns.
There was another shock in the second round of
the puppy comp. Lindys
Girl ran middle from trap five and hammered into Erinaceous
Rapid at the start. Directors
Chair was not well away and also suffered some interference.
Houdini (Bubbly
Magic) escaped from a beaten 4th place in the first round to qualify
for this semi final. He broke fairly well here and after avoiding
the trouble, made all. Lively
Arthur was slow away, but plugged on to qualify for a place in
the final. Bubbly Magic's kennel mate Ardmayle Machine looked like
the likely qualifier in the previous round, but failed to pass the
vet after the race was stopped for safety reasons. It looks like he
may have made a miraculous recovery, as he's entered to run on
Thursday in an A5. Praise the Lord!
Ceroc
Gypsy never gave his punters a moments anxiety when smashing out
and making all in the S1 event. Drominboy
Iseki won a bunch finish for a long second. Silbury
Ruby was hammered into by Shelbourne
Thesa out of the second bend and didn't get a chance to chuck it
in this week. Silbury
Ruby surely needs to be taken to some different tracks to get
her interested again?
The 3rd semi saw an end to the shocks as Centaur
Decree started well and made all. Centaur
Decree was robbed last week, as were the punters who punted him.
Bonville
Buster was very slow away, moved off at the first bend and kept
on to grab a place in the final. Centaur
Decree should be a penalty kick in the final.
July
Captain produced a great start in the A5, but could not
hold Droopys
Top Lad, who grabbed the lead near the line after running wide
at the odd turn or two.
Mystical
Bunny made all to win the A3 for Paul Garland to defy a 70 day
break. Lime
Juice kept on for second after running wide. Lime
Juice has had a trip away, running at Galway for the last couple
of months.
Dogs running in their 100th race, particularly
those whose long suffering owners sponsor their race, should be
given a gimme. They have given an awful lot to their track (both
owners and dog!) and deserve to mark the occasion on a high. They
should be downgraded, be given the draw and start odds on in my
view. It was therefore particularly disappointing to see Small
Bites face such a tough task on his 100th up. :( January
Student was modestly away, then showed his customary early
before Crying
Shame swept by and ruined the field. Crying
Shame was a well supported jolly. Not
So Jolly plugged on for second after a poor start. Small
Bites disappointed.
Another well backed favourite Genesis
Alix sent home favourite backers home happy. She appeared to
have the race won after 10 yards and proceeded to serve up a right
beating to her rivals.
