Moves like a
butterfly stings like a bee. Butterbridge Ali screams round the Stow
Walthamstow Report
19 Apr 2007
Thursday featured the first round heats of the
Ocean trailers puppy comp and some graded racing to fill in the
gaps.
Mystical
Star made all in the opening A4. Perrys
Carat was fairly slow away, got a clear run and turned 2nd, but
faded on the run in. Corcra
Agus Or was slow away and disappointed
Fear
Mykeo showed the benefit of her previous run back from season
when routing the field in the A3. Sparta
Master showed some early pace, along with Carden
Noir. Mr Bullen called the event perfectly in the bar. He
suggested that once Fear
Mykeo had flown that a stayer would pick up the other early
paced dogs and nominated Droopys
Sibin. Droopys
Sibin just got up for second to head Carden
Noir on the line. Tony is the finest judge at Walthamstow bar
none.
The hurdles H2 looked there for the taking for Questhouse
Jimmy to me, though he is hardly one to trust the hard earned
on. He is very pacey, erratic and doesn't get home too strongly. He
broke smartly and made all. Westgate
Cars turned handy, but could not (or would not) get on terms.
The S4 shitters event was all over at the
traps. Quick
Appeal bashed out and made all and never looked in the remotest
danger. Sligos
Win ran all right for second. Issy
Bee changed her running style a bit. She was slow away, showed
some good middle pace, but still collapsed from the 5th bend.
The first heat of the puppy comp was taken by Lively
Arthur. He was none to quick out of the boxes, but kept on and
took the lead at the 3rd bend. Tenbucks
Ebony broke modestly and kept on for second. Eye
Onthe Flame put in a poor showing, but still managed to qualify.
I had intended to invest on this one as his 1st run (a 29.67
Kilkenny) equated to A3 on my system. I was distracted and I failed
to get the readies on.
The second heat would have seen a very impressive
winner in Centaur
Decree. However, Touchwood
Dream was KO'd at the first and then
ran round the other way and the hare had to be stopped for safety
reasons. This saved the bookies a coshel load. Bubbly Magic was a
long 4th when the hare was stopped. I'm not 100% certain of quite
what followed, but this is my best guess at it. "Surprisingly"
Ardmayle
Machine, all of a sudden, didn't pass the vet and Bubbly
Magic sneaked into the next round. The stow race goers were last to
know as Mr Page mistakenly failed to get across the goings on. The
fact that Mark Wallis trained both Ardmayle
Machine and Bubbly
Magic was surely a coincidence. I was offered Evens Ardmayle
Machine went
through before any announcement came, but decided to decline this
most generous offer. (ish)
The 3rd heat looked a trappy event.Lockdale
Duke made the running until the 3rd bend. He left a lovely gap
up the inner and Siesta
Romeo took up the invitation and went on to win.. Lockdale
Duke faded from between the last two turns.. Siesta
Romeo won the heat in a particularly slow time. Larkhill
Jackie stayed on well for second after suffering a second bend
bump. Kilsheelan
plodded on for third.
Back to the graded fare and Eye
Onthe Jewel made all to land the S1. Silbury
Ruby was again bitterly disappointing. She turned with more than
every chance and settled for second.
The 4th heat saw an extremely impressive run
from Butterbridge
Ali. He was always going to get a good run early doors, but
those that took short odds looked like they were drawing before the
first bend. He really put it down and recorded a superb 28.64 for a
puppy. Only Centaur
Decree can give him a race in the event in my view. Erinaceous
Rapid stayed on for a long second. Lockwood
Littljo paced up well to the 3rd turn, taking the rails
particularly well, before being outclassed from the 3rd
bend.
Conker
All was slow away, but unleashed some electric early pace in the
5th heat. He had enough lead to hang himself, but the gas ran out
off the last bend and Lindys
Girl stayed on really well to lead near the line. Lindys
Girl showed that her defeat of Directors
Chair previously was no fluke. Eye
Onthe Power stayed on for the 3rd qualifying spot.
Directors
Chair made all in heat six, but survived a scare at the second
bend. Killer
Keane was slow away, but showed the better early pace, but came
together with his kennel mate, losing all momentum and had to settle
for a minor role.
Reverse
Pace was an impressive all the way winner in the A2. Fenland
Lark ran well in defeat, challenging at the 3rd bend, but Reverse
Pace was in no mood to give up the lead.
The consistent Tanner
Butler ran an absolute blinder to make all in the A1. She has
not stopped improving and is a credit to Gary Baggs and his kennel
staff. War
Of Attrition stayed on for second and will win when he gets Tony
Bullen off his back.
The finale (an S2) was comfortably won by Pennys
Britney who led between the first two bends and quickly put the
race to bed. Silbury
Squirrel turned handy, but could never get close enough to
challenge.
