Puma
purrs in again at tasty odds –
Walthamstow
Report 01 Mar 2007
A tricky graded card faced punters on this Thursday card,
following the Arc meeting on Tuesday. One thing that has struck me
this last week or so has been the significant loss of quality of the
graded racing, following the departure of Ernie Gaskin. I'm told the
track had been turned over yesterday, so the going was slow.
I missed the first two races. Tony Bullen's Nap Appletown
Drogba won the first race and by 4 lengths as well. The channel
854 dog Castledale
Lad won the hurdles race defying a 187 day absence. Well done to
Jason and the lads!
The dreadful S4 (S12) was won by Barowhall
Buster who was winning his 7th race from 69 starts.
Moving quickly on, the P7 was marred by the most aggressive bit
of interference I have seen for some considerable time. I like Lens
Return and did have a few bob on him tonight. He seemed to be
turning pretty handy when turning in 2nd place behind Droopys
Jimmy. However he attacked poor old DJ and took him out
completely off the 2nd turn. This presented the race to Many
Memories who maybe was not doing his absolute best, but found
himself in front at half way.
Flying
Fancy
led home a one-two for the Seamus Cahill kennel as she took a middle
path on the run up and led off the 2nd bend. Rockchase
Alice stayed on for second as Box
Of Tricks gave any chance away when running very wide at all the
bends.
Daphs
Domino broke smartly and led the field to the 5th turn in the
S3, but could not sustain the gallop. Layhams
Lucky had a dwell up when holding every chance at the 5th bend. Pennys
Britney trailed in well over the trip and confirmed that
impression when winning comfortably here.
Maneen
Haka looked an expensive purchase in the A5. He is reputed to
have weighed in at 15K. He was average away crwd + led 2, but
was nailed near the line by Stables
Boy. This was the second gamble to go astray from the Garland
kennel.
They should have followed up the trial form as Mystical
Chief beat Maneen
Haka a head in a trial and landed the A4 at 4-1. Sangria
led up but ran out of juice near the line.
Droopys
Puma rolled back the years with an all-the-way success in the
S1. The favvy Centaur
Iris was clumsy and bitterly disappointing. Be
Wise Lady didn't look 100%, but followed the old boy home. DP's
owner Colin Petrie was not seen at the track, I hope he was on off
course. A month ago he was on at 12-1 down to 6-1. DP does not owe
him a thing.
A modest A3 was won by King
Forever who was slow away, showed some pace to the first and led
at 1/2 way. Granard
Sam and Dantes
Image ran dismally in behind. Dysert
Cara led to half way, but is going through the motions at
present.
Luas
Lasrach broke very smartly in the A2, but again folded up on the
run in. I cannot believe the 5.11 sectional can be right. It looked
like 5 dead to my eye. War
Of Attrition and Lissivigeen
Mary stayed on to be first and second respectively in a scramble
for the post.
Optimistic
Henry made most of the running in the A1, but could not hold Ross
Fortune in the latter stages. Ross
Fortune did particularly well after suffering a few whacks. He
is not one to rely on though on balance, despite possessing a fair
amount of ability.
The lucky last was won in trap-to-line fashion by Owtoftowna.
She had time to go wide at plenty of bends and wave to her fans. The
Garland favvy Sheer
Genius ran a shocker.
