the field in the Arc ? –
Walthamstow
Report 17 Feb 2007
Saturday’s quality card featured the 2nd
round of the Arc mixed in with some graded races. A decent P7 opened
the card and the Mark Wallis trained Kinda
Sure put in a quality performance and made all the running in the
opener. The Seamus Cahill trained favoutite Zoot
broke poorly, showed some middle pace and then faded on the run in.
The surprisingly short priced Tenbucks
Ebony checked up at the second bend and disappointed.
Bell
Imperial put in an improved performance in the S2 with a trap to line
victory. Craigdales
Ruby checked up at the first bend and lost all chance. She eased
at the 5th bend last week, so this was no real surprise.
Rockchase
James put in a decent performance in the P5. Few would have
expected him to lead so early, but he was impressive in beating Arry
Olt,
who lost no caste in defeat. I would expect Rockchase
James to go through the grades on the back of this performance.
Black
Mike broke smartly in the A4, but his stamina gave way as he went
wide at the last bend. Implicitly
led off the 4th bend. Implicitly
was previously open class over four and six bends and may pay to
follow in the next few weeks, now he has got his head in front.
I’d prefer it to be in another kennel personally. I’m not a fan
of Mr Garland.
The first heat of the 2nd
round of the Arc featured a brilliant performance from the Maria
Dennis trained Rough
Region. He quickly swallowed the Pork
Pie
and was followed home by Blonde
Buster and Exclusive
Lee. This must make him a contender to win the event outright. Debbies
Choice had a big check up between the first two bends, which was
not altogether surprising, as she was hardly fluent at the bends in
the first round. This was something I failed to note in my previous
report. I had another look at the video of the race after taking to
Jim Austin. Thanks mate!
Placid
Jill led on the draw in the S1, but could not hold the staying on
Westmead
Mary. Westmead
Mary did well to win after suffering a 1st bend bump.
She got up to win by a head.
The second heat of the Arc was a
bonanza for most of the layers as the unconsidered rag Vipar
Totti smashed out and made all. Mr OGorman however, went 25-1 and
got filled in. (not by me) There’s plenty of room to Pass the
Dutchy on the left hand side at the bends, as Zigzag
Dutchy cannot seem to stay on the rails at the bends. I think that
he will still make the final, as he stays on well. Legal
Major qualified for in 2nd place after a bump at the 2nd
bend. Bigbadassassian
broke poorly from the coffin box and was smashed up at the first
bend.
Carden
Noir made all to win the A3 comfortably. Miss
Modesty showed lots of pace, but her steering was not good.
Lenson
Tearaway took the third heat of the Arc with a trap to line victory.
His early foot will always give him a chance. He’s another
contender in an open looking Arc. Raging
Jack showed impressive middle pace after a slow start. He’s a
bit of a nut nut, who may reach the final. Roswell
Starship missed the break but got a clear run and qualified in third
place.
Mitzie
blasted out of the traps in the marathon, but could not hold the
pacey checker Westminster
Taj who led at the 7th bend and left lots of lengths
on the track.
Mitzie
did not appear to quite get the trip.
In the final heat of the Arc, Too
Risky produced another quality break and looked for much of the
race as he would hold on. The ante post favourite Jazz
Hurricane was crowded at the 2nd bend and came home very
well to lead in the shadow of the post. Blue Square’s 8/11 looked
like a generous offer in the morning, but this was surprisingly
matched by the SP.
Oscars
Market was very slow away and ran wide, but still won the A2 fairly
comfortably. He ran on well and caught Cunning
Dandy off the last corner.
The veteran
Annes
Honcho put in another decent performance to win the A1. She lacked
middle pace, but ran on well to beat Noirs
Heart, who was quick away but could not hold the game veteran. As
was reported in the post, she has had a litter and was also retired,
but she can still teach the youngsters a thing or two.
Be
Wise Lady made all in the last
race and held on from Milwaukee
Tools who put in one of his
rare better performances.
