Sparkys
Return
Walthamstow
Report 23 Jan 2007
Tuesday brought average graded fare
with a few highlights. Diesel Loco did a 28 forty something
in a trial before racing, so the ground was very fast.
The opening event was won by Go
Figure, who swung off at the bends, but beat a dreadful bunch.
It looked like a 30.40 race to the eye, but 29.74 was the recorded
time. Mark Wallis’s Tenbucks Ebony finally rewarded his
supporters with a trap to line victory. The previously noted Lens
Return slung the race away, when showing all sorts of pace in
the race, but
was clumsy between the last two turns.
His brother Arry Olt fared a
lot better when making all as a well backed favvy in the A7. Anyone
who backed the pedestrian Smoking Jet at ca 2/1 should book
themselves an appointment ASAP.
Daphs Domino
broke well and made all in the S3. Cutie Pie turned handy and
was very disappointing.
Falcon Flight
made all at a juicy 7/1 in the five runner A7. Falcon Flight
was previously A4 and she was let in here, if she could show her
previous ability. I was
seemingly the only one at the track who fancied her. Mr Sharp was
noted visiting the tote booth before the race. (for his two bob
forecast)
Classy Star
came home strongly to pick up the short running Tea Biscuit
in the A6. Classy
Star won 3/7 at Peterborough before coming to the stow and may
be able to win another race or two yet. (St) Bernard cut out
the early running in the S1, but could not sustain the gallop and
Mark Wallis’s Genesis Sister led off the 4th
bend and won fairly well.
Ballyegan Geri
was an unimpressive winner of the A5 race. Rodolfos Secret
did all sorts of running, but somehow chucked the race away. Magical
Luska was again slow away and got going too late. The open
looking A4 had a surprisingly short favourite in Black Forfeit.
Retribution
bolted out of the traps and looked home and hosed. However, Be
Wise Lady had other ideas and stayed on to lead near the line. Be
Wise Lady was having her 2nd race back from season,
got a clear run and showed her abundant stamina here.
January Sailor showed his customary early boot and made all to land a messy
A3 event. Swing Low should have won, but his dodgy steering
let him down.
Those who thought Special Deal
had been dropped off a cliff in a a graded sense were proved correct
in the A2. After breaking with the field, he lead on the draw and
routed his field.
Vancouver Sparky
finally made his comeback, after previously twice being a non runner, in the A1.
He broke smartly and held on, despite looking vulnerable from
between the last two turns. He looked absolutely brilliant through
the Arc earlier this year and was extremely unlucky in the final,
when coming together with Mahers Boy. Lets hope he can win a
few more yet.
Despite a light failure on the track in the last, they finally
got the race off.
Many
punters would wish that they had not bothered. It was a bonanza for
the layers as Ellron was a shock winner for Kelly Mullins.
