Two
layers reported doing five figures after just six races.
Walthamstow
Report 20 Jan 2007
Saturday brought a tremendous card
of open races together, finally after the midweek fodder. I was slow
out of the traps and missed the first two races. Feora Field
went off a well backed 2/1 favvy in the Div 3 Arc trial stake after
being available at 10/3 in the morning. Feora Field had not
been too fluent round the bends recently, but went round on the
bunny and held on narrowly as Marley Sonic came at him late.
The Pepsi Max marathon looked to be
a match between Countrywidecapel and Snappy Girl and so it proved. Countrywidecapel was out
with the washing early and Snappy Girl was in the front rank
throughout. Snappy Girl momentarily seemed to take a breather
off the sixth bend, but as Willington Spot’s stamina gave
way at the 7th bend, Snappy Girl went into
overdrive and drew away. Countrywidecapel got going far too
late and was a long 2nd. The bookie battering show
continued as Africa put another nail into the layers coffins.
Available at 3/1 early doors, Africa was sent off a strongly
backed 7/4 favourite at the track. His supporters never had a moment
anxiety as Africa bolted out of the traps and made all. Teo
Master threatened to get involved, but is more suited to a
galloping track and did not negotiate the bends very well. One of
the best events of the evening featured the unbeaten Trained Assassin and the Ernie Gaskin
trained Cobra Striking. Sadly, Trained Assassin missed
her beak, so the anticipated buckle never materialised. Cobra
Striking went bingo out of the traps yet again, but put in a
somewhat laboured show when leading from start to finish. She does
not quite seem the same bitch to me these days. Now just six races
gone and it was reported that two layers had done in five figures.
No one likes to see that J
Amazingly, Greenfiled
Hero went off favourite in the Div 2 Arc stakes, but Lenson
Tearaway broke well and made all to record a decent 28.87. The
layers finally got some relief when the 2nd heat of the Pepsi Max marathon went to one of
the rags, when Elite Queen won for Brian Clemenson in the
slowest time of the three heats.
The consistent Astute Gift
made all in the puppy standard to land his 9th win from
24 starts. Broadway Sizzler was smashed up at the
first after a moderate start and Big Brett Coal was most disappointing.
Yet another favvy
inflicted more pain on the layers when Jazz Hurricane flew
round the stow to record a brilliant 28.42. This equalled Pennys
Worth’s track record.
Confident
Foe was another winning favourite when landing
the 3rd heat of the Pepsi Max marathon. She led of the
3rd turn and held off the late challenge of Physcos
Dream, who finished well.
The improving Swift Maggie
put in an excellent run when breaking fast and making all to hold
off Dearfield Seani. She recorded a fast 39.78 and this was
her 12th win from 25 starts. Westmead Swift put in
another disappointing show and Dearfield Seani ran very well
after a 32 day break.
Two average graded races ended the card and Addington
Ruby made most to land the A2. The improving Irate Kate
won the S2 when she picked up Craigdales Ruby at the fift
turn to land her fourth win from her last five starts.
