Scores
for show, doubles for dough! Walthamstow Report 18 Jan 2007
A top class Thursday card welcomed
punters this Thursday. (That better LA?)
I was unable to make it till the 3rd
race and was treated to an S4 as my opener. Graham Sharp got a 75th
birthday pressie, when Rambling Ruth made all to land the S4.
Despite a 1/14 record at Swindon, and reaching the heady heights of
A5. Rambling Ruth beat some grim old customers to land the
race.
Hammer It Ahead was fancied by
many after running well on the Bags on his last up. He also had some
open race on his card, but performed abysmally in this contest. Silbury
Squirell ran well behind Bell Sensational last time and stayed
on ok to win in a very slow time. Funcheon Rebel broke
moderately but showed some EP to lead up in the A6. However the 16
day layoff may have told when he gave way to the Spaniard on the
outside. Manwell won her first race from six at the Stow and landed
odds of 5/4 for the Puzey Kennel. Sangria was formerly 2/10
A4 at Romford.
True Frankie cut out the
running in the S3, but his stamina gave way to Melon Twister,
who landed a gamble for the Gary Baggs kennel. Melon Twister
pulled away from the 5th bend and outclassed his field.
The Racing Post nap Rockchase
James was extremely disappointing in the P5. Breaking poorly and
finding a little trouble at the first turn, he never ran an inch.
Double Top eventually got to
the oche despite displaying a keenness for burgers at the 2nd
bend. Pennys Britney was crowded, but led from the first until
collapsing off the last bend. Double Top got it with his last
dart. Remember Bobby George’s old adage,
“It’s scores for show, doubles for dough!”
Coolsville failed to progress
from his previous run and was nailed on the line after leading in
the A5. Coolsville was surprisingly picked up by Roll Over
Moll after the rest of the field were involved in a first bend melee.
Knockane Picotee looked particularly unlucky as he looked to
be likely to turn close behind and surely would of put those two too
the sword.
Chivalrous defied long odds to make
all the running in the A4. The chuckle brothers Harry Chuckles
had little to laugh about here. He ran no sort of race .
Not too many took part in the S1.
Droopys Hepburn was beaten 639 metres when somewhat outclassed in
this field. Coolanga Flyer ran horribly. Alexander Pride
paused at every bend. Milwaukee Tools did not stay a suit
length. I suspect that the official going allowance of
-70 in his 640 trial was a little out, What’s the odd
second between friends? The
race was fought out by Ballymartin Jack and Milldean Mia.
Ballymartin Jack won the race well and Milldean Mia
showed a bit of a return to form here.
The poorly contested A3 was won by
Paul Garlands Pennys Viva. Pennys Viva ran a decent
29.29 at Newbridge before running at the stow and won her 3rd
race from eleven starts here. Sophie Rose was a laboured 2nd.
Nil Finance was downgraded in
the A2 and made no mistake when making all the running in the
A2. Localimprovement was a surprising 2nd. Localimprovement
won 5/31 before coming to the stow, but has had a look before. Ardagh
Mike previously won the Carling Futurity at Nottingham, but
looked a bit sore here.
Those who Got On Blackie were disappointed when
the evens favvy was well beaten in the A3. This was another win for
the Gary Noble bred litter Concorde Direct – Matriach, as Special
Trip made all the running to land his tenth win from thirty six
starts. Silky Rose won the finale fairly comfortably when
leading off the second bend to hold off Pigalle Lass, who
made a race of it until giving way from the 5th bend.
