Walthamstow Report 13 Jan 2007

Tonight's meeting opened with a modest P9 where Mark Wallis’s Hayman Angel stole a march on his rivals but could not sustain the gallop and finally faded to finish 4th. Witches Petal, made a tardy start as an unconsidered 8-1 shot, but stayed on to lead near the line. Yak Yak Lampard broke well in the P8 and had what seemed to be an unassailable lead. However, Mr T Judge’s Schwarzer made a winning debut without doing anything special, he led on the run in. Schwarzer’s dam has bred a few open racers, but I’m not sure that Schwarzer will make up into another. I somehow suspect the owners name is not his real one. One to note from this race was the John Coleman debutant Lens Return. He lost his way at the first two turns but came home quite well. Lens Return is owned by David Holt. David’s father Len owned the brilliant Satharn Lady and the family have bundles. This one will soon leave this grade well behind. An uninspiring S3 went the way of the Gary Baggs trained Moynevilla Robin. A 5/4 favvy, he took up the running from Arnies Mentor at the 3rd bend.

Char Char (owned by Carr) just led up in the A7. He was not too fluent at the 3rd bend and succumbed to the well backed Daphs Star who lead near the line to land odds of 4/5. Captain Hardy went off an unconsidered 50-1 shot in the paddock bar. One of the performances of the night was put in by the Seamus Cahill trained Ceroc Gypsy. Twice a beaten favourite, she broke the sequence when gagging up in the A6 on her fourth return from season. If avoiding a double upgrade, she will be virtually unbeatable next time. Coran Tommy stumbled coming out of the boxes, but never looked like living with Ceroc Gypsy. Reverse Pace defied a 21 day absence toland short oddds of 4/5 in the A5. The Bags performer Gortnamoyah cut out the early running, but never looked like holding on. The 7/4 favvy Calzaghe Shearer held what looked like a winning advantage in the second S3, but folded very tamely and Seamus Cahill’s Grumpy Joe ran on to lead on the run in. Miss Modesty ran very well to foil my attempted touch on the Mick Puzey trained Kindred Sparky. Seamus Cahill’s Miss Modesty’s dam is Mrs Bishop who is also the dam of Evening Flight. Miss Modesty may be a fair six bend prospect. Kindred Sparky’s dam is Ballymac Minnie who won several open races including plenty of sprints. Kindred Sparky looks to me to be the brightest prospects I have seen for some while at the stow. Kindred Sparky is a lovely scopey dog and showed electric early pace before tying up off the last bend on his debut. I think Kindred Sparky will go through the grades like a shot and contest open races. I’d give my right arm for this one, figuratively speaking. I will be following this one over all avaialble cliffs. Daisyfield Bella led off the 2nd bend in the A4 only to cramp again and leave the way clear for another favvy to come home. Compliance Lad landed the first of a five timer for Mark Wallis. Compliance Lad won seven races from 27 at Romford, but this was his first win at the Stow from four attempts. A trip to Harlow for a trial brought Sofem back to life in the S1. After two abysmal efforts, she bolted from the traps and never saw another rival. Rockchase Lilly broke poorly and was impeded at several bends in his attempt to land a fifth win on the trot. The Mark Wallis show continued when Blue Rizzler smoked his  rivals in the A3, defying a 23 day absence in the process. With five runners in the A2 having a two week plus absence, many would have side-stepped this race. Bell Rocket led off the 2nd and Tinky Rolls stayed on out of the pack for second. Mr Bullen gave yet another winner to his followers when Arnies Plan made all the running in the A1. This was the 5th win on the trot for the Mark Wallis kennel. Many of his rivals in the race performed poorly and Optimistic Berty came through for second. Droopys Hepburn landed a solitary win for Paul Garland in the last. Despite not running the bends fluently, she dug out more on the straights to hold off Bell Imperial.

Ones to Note

Kindred Sparky (Follow this one over all available cliffs

Lens Return (Promising debut, owner has bundles)

Ceroc Gypsy (Comfortable winner, should win next time)
