Walthamstow Report
06 Jan 2007
There was a good turn out from the Racing Post
Greyhound Greyhound desk this evening. On a request for one of them
to go to the racing office, one chickened out after being in no
state to “work” after being on the sauce from 1 pm in the
afternoon! There was no sign of Mr Bolton, however his cousin Senor
Bolton turned up with a very nice tan. I am indebted to my mate Ian who very kindly provided the first three race reports.
7.30 pm
Punters had there fingers burnt after the opening race went the way
of the
2nd fav Star Potential, who turned a little bit handier
than on her previous two
starts and outstayed the rest of the field to win going away. The
favourite
Redec King hit the front halfway down the back only to swing
off the last
bend and lose any chance.
7.43 pm
A nonsense of a race where Fionntra Polly looked to have
enough of a lead to
collect, but Retail Therapy decided to chase after and catch
the leader halfway up
the run in but seemed more interested in the leader rather than the
lure, eventually getting up to win a sh hd. there was a pleasant
surprise to
see that the stewards were actually watching the race and
disqualified the
winner for aggressive interference.
7.57pm
A decent start saw Eye On The Glory turn a 1st bend lead into
a good win.
Droopys Jimmy (decent money for this with the bookmakers) showed
some good
pace down the back and looked a threat but found little coming home
and will
surely win in this grade very soon.
8.11 pm
Wheres Bibby broke well, but eased into
the first bend allowing the Ernie Gaskin trained Elusive For Sure
to notch up another win.
8.25 pm
The well backed Windgap Lilly showed an
improved effort last time and built upon that run to make all in the
S3
8.39 pm
Peter Rich’s Coolsville won a fair A6
when he made all to beat Lockdale Prince. The winner of 5 of
his 7 races in Ireland has not yet matched his level of form
achieved in Ireland. He has a rather odd stride, not stretching one
of his front legs out in a straight line, (Arazi like) and did not
particularly impress. Lockdale Prince lost a bit of ground on
the back straight and came home really well. He will definitely be
winning very soon.
8.53 pm
Gortown Joe made all in the A5,
definitely one for the bookies. This was an improved effort from a
previously moderate performer. Lode Star would have run close
but for being clumsy when crowded between the last two turns.
9.07 pm
The punters got one back after Shelbourne
Thesa won the weak looking S1. After a moderate break, she
showed some early pace and made all. Hondo Blue loomed up
towards the 5th bend, but again eased and faded.
9.21 pm
Hitmanassassian was another for the layers when winning the first
of two A4 races. Cream Munkie showed some pace to the bend,
but Hitmanassassian took up the running off the 2nd
bend and won comfortably, albeit in a poor 29.52.
9.35 pm
Many punters got their fingers burned when Questhouse
Lucy failed
to show the expected early pace and running poorly in the second A4.
Zucolade somewhat surprisingly
made all to hold off the staying on Black Forfeit.
9.35 pm
Rockchase Lilly won another weakly contested S1. Rockchase
Lilly is by First To Return, the dam of Greenacre Lin and Big
Freeze. Most of First To Return’s offspring seem to
perform well at staying trips.
10.03 pm
Special Roxi was another winner from the
Concorde Direct-Matriarch litter bred by Gary Noble. Special Roxi
broke smartly and made all, whilst not being fluent at the 3rd
turn, she held on ok in a fair 29.17.
10.17 pm
Mighty Fella made all to add another win to his tally.
The winner of four of his last six races, Mighty Fella is progressing well. He
is bred by Rosden Gemma, who won five open races, including a first
round heat of the Oaks at Wimbledon.
10.30 pm
The Garys Baggs trained Ebony Ocean came through with a storming finish to land the
finale. Ebony Ocean has
been competing in a few marathons, but possessed enough pace to win
another 640 event.
Ones to Note
Lockdale Prince (will win next time
up)
Ones to avoid
Different Gravy
Wheres Bibby
Courts Ad Vieri
