Walthamstow Report
04 Jan 2007
The meeting opened with a 435 open race and
Greenlough Power catapulted out of the boxes to take a winning
advantaged, but he ran out of gas on the run in and Ballymac Top was
the beneficiary.
Strong Flow won an uninspiring hurdles open
when making all to land odds of 11/10.
Diesel Loco was many punters idea of the banker
of the evening, but he fluffed his lines and did not seem to stride
out with any fluency. Westmead Vieri, who I was informed didn’t
stay, seemed to stay well enough to win the novice stayers race.
Tanner Butler impressed in the Div 3 maiden
when showing a nice turn of speed to rout his rivals. Sophie Rose
plugged on for 2nd.
The “thrilling”vetrans race was won in
trap-to-line fashion by Bill McLuskey and Peter Rider’s reliable
Annes Honcho. Breaking smartly, she comfortably held Milldean
Clarkey.
One of the best performances of the evening was
that of the Mark Wallis trained Fear Martina in the Div 2 stayers
event. Fear Martina bolted out of the traps and was a comfortable
winner.
A messy race ensued in the Div 2 standard.
Discreet Cat trapped well, but did not possess the pace to clear and
was involved in a first bend melee. Courts Ad Queen got a lucky
clear run and led off the 2nd bend.
The surprisingly short Special Trip was unsurprisingly
turned over in the Div 2 maiden at short odds from an
iffy draw, where Marley Sonic remarkably made all.
Westmead Trip was another favvy to come unstuck
when trapping, but lacking the pace to clear at the first turn in
the Div 1 stayers. This left the way clear for Swift Maggie to get
another win on the board.
Astute Gift made the most of a great draw to
comfortably win the puppy open at an ungenerous ˝.. The key to this
one is a clear run. He does not often trap well, but has very good
all-round ability. He is one to oppose from the middle boxes.
Westmead Taj won a messy marathon landing a
four timer for Gary Baggs. En it ran dreadfully and Blackmagic Maisy
checked at a fair few bends.
Too Risky appeared at first glance to be poorly
drawn in trap four in the Div 1 standard. However, in a race that
lacked early speed, he stamped his class over the event when a
runaway 7 3/4 L winner of the event.
Trained Assassin added to his already
impressive tally when trapping fast and running to the middle in the
Div 1 maiden. He made all to beat Superhods Hero. Superhods Hero was
once quoted a 25-1 shot for the Irish Derby (Thanks Ian!), but while
he still has the gears, his steering is shot to pieces.
The concluding Div 2 novice stayers was won in a modest
time by the Mark Wallis trained Genesis Alex. The favvy Fionntra
Lisa was done at the first bend.
