Horses to consider
Artreju (14/1) – Caught the eye at
Newmarket when going well for the trainers daughter in apprentice
handicap that hasn’t worked out from a form prospective, however the
way the horse travelled in that race he could be called the winner a
long way out and even though the last run was on the disappointing
side at Kempton on the all weather. A strong traveller I feel this
slower ground will help the horse to run a big race today as he
looks the type to improve for some juice in the ground and Champion
Jockey elect is in the saddle for tonight’s run.
Closertobelieving (11/4) – Has
stamina aplenty given the way he finished of his race over course
and distance last time and is clearly going the right way for a 3yo
taking on his elders here. This ranks as a tougher ask but he ran to
the level you would have expected last time and deserves this step
up in class, whether he can use the conditions to his advantage to
beat the older horses of his low weight is to be seen, but he has
form around here and isn’t one to dismiss lightly.
Dear Maurice (1/1) – Not often you
like to back short priced favourites in handicaps and especially if
they are running of top weight in a handicap over a trip they
haven’t tried before, however there is reason to believe this horse
can take the step up in class after landing this race. The 7lbs
penalty from last run makes life a lot tougher for this horse today,
but he won with ease despite meeting trouble in running last time
and on breeding should come along further for this step up in trip.
