Seaton Delaval Trophy Handicap 1M 3Y Good Good to Soft
Horses to consider
Zero Tolerance (6/1) – Will have
made many punters notebook after returning in good health Beverley
in a handicap on ground that would have been regarded as plenty
quick enough, however there are some holes to poke in that early
season handicap as the winner is another that would have required
softer conditions then it was that day on the Stiff track, the
strength and depth in that race could be questioned with a few maybe
coming on for the run that day and proving to win handicaps after
that run. Zero Tolerance does go well fresh as he is quite lightly
raced for an 8yo and even though this is a better handicap he has
good form to his name in the past and if only showing 85% of his
best form from a few years ago he would be highly consider of this
low weight. The conditions underfoot have come right and he is a
proven mile specialist and should run a big race on a course he
travelled so strongly at in the Lincoln that he was too high in the
handicap for.
Scartozz (7/1) – Was unlucky to lose
the race last time at Redcar when interference made him lose the
race in the final furlong and was harshly treated on the evidence of
what happened in my view. Has only had two runs in this country for
his Italian trainer who is making waves in this country as a trainer
to follow and the yard is in good form at the moment. Has
improvement still to come in my view and showed a remarkable amount
of consistence. The easier conditions underfoot shouldn’t be a
problem having shown good form on tough goings back in Italy,
however he does seem to enjoy quick ground under foot and maybe the
edge taken off the ground with the rain up north will be a deciding
factor in a more competitive handicap then the five runner affair he
ran in last time, but he comes here in good form and should run his
race in this today.
Rio Riva (10/1) – hacked up in this
race last season under soft conditions and while the conditions of
the track wont be as desperate as it was that day, it should be soft
enough for him to do enough damage to this field if getting the
solid enough pace from the pace setting Zero Tolerance and with this
track playing to his come from behind tactics he could well bounce
back to form after finding 10F to far at Nottingham and the ground
and the messy race at Thirsk going against him. Today’s race should
be much more to his liking and the Southwell run behind Benandonner
where he is a stone better of at the weights and that rival is at
his top of his game at Southwell and it should be enough changes in
conditions and weight for the form to be turned around here today.
Tom Eaves continues the partnership.
Flipando (13/1) – Starting to look
very well handicapped and the run last time in the Hunt cup
shouldn’t reflect his true chance in this handicap today as the draw
played a massive factor in that handicap. Seven furlongs the time
before he finished with a rattle and caught the eye that day and
while the ground that day was on the extreme fast side that suits
this horse, providing it doesn’t turn into a bog with the intended
rain he should give his true running with his ability being proven
on ground with some juice in. The mile course here should suit his
turn of foot and if Zero Tolerance (stable mate) can set a good
enough gallop his extra stamina and finishing kick could well come
into play in this handicap and has to be strongly considered with
the yard holding a strong hand in this handicap even if David Barron
hasn’t got the well handicapped ammo this season that he has had in
the past and it is noted in the height of summer his string does
start to edge of slightly from their all year round form.
Selection –
Rio Riva 2 pts win @ 10/1
(BF’S11) & Flipando 1 pt @ 11/1
(BF’s13’s)
