4.05 Carlisle Cumberland Plate
11.5F Good to soft / Soft class 4 handicap
Horses to consider
Sin City (17/2) – Made a pleasing
return to the track in what looked a half decent handicap at
Hamilton two weeks ago and is certain to have benefited from that
run, he was quite well fancied for his seasonal return for top
handicapping judge Richard Fahey and there is sure to be a handicap
for this horse to land this summer around the northern block.
Today’s race isn’t the strongest of Cumberland Plate and the ground
is totally different to what he returned on last time. However
looking at this profile and the way he runs this stiffer more
testing going could be just what the horse needs to make a good fist
of it today. The yard didn’t have the best royal meeting, but
amongst the northern trainers there isn’t many better in these types
of races then the Fahey Camp. Still unexposed he could well be ahead
of the handicapper here.
Nur Tau (28/1) – Top weight in a
staying handicap isn’t the most ideal preference for testing going
and this unexposed 4yo has still made the long journey to the north
to contest this race today, whether or not Hugh Morrison has ran out
of ideas with this horse is to be seen as he has the first time
blinkers on for this run today. Comes here looking to recapture his
form he showed as a 3yo when beating the useful Sugar Ray, he showed
a glimmer of ability when 6L behind Kavachi who ran a cracker at
Royal Ascot last week over a mile, albeit draw assisted. Handles
some give in the ground and stayed on well enough at Doncaster to
suggest he is coming into some form and with the application of
blinkers and the sole traveller from the Morrison yard that are in
form, he could be a surprise package.
Lochiel (33/1) – Could have excuses
made for him last time at Hamilton where the ground looked a shade
to quick for him in what was a keenly contested middle distance
handicap and the change of conditions today should very much help
him along here today and he could still be on the upgrade so the
bottom weight in a handicap that doesn’t look as hot as the last
could be interesting here today. Has shown that getting his toe in
suits and given the way he finished behind Royal Amnesty at
Musselbrugh 3 runs back he should easily reverse that form today as
he had to be rousted along on the ground. These type of handicaps
look tailor made for him and with the added claim of the jockey
taking him down to a nice weight I wouldn’t be quick to dismiss his
chances in this race today at a big price.
Know the Law (40/1) – Another that
has travelled a long way for this race and looking at his price it
appears he could have been just company for Carlisle Bell hopeful
Summer dancer in a earlier race. The Elsworth barn are not having
the best of seasons so far and victory at Carlisle in one of their
feature handicaps of the season could well see them turn the corner
this season. The reason why Know the Law has to be considered is
that the ground has come right for this horse and the fact they have
travelled all this way is eye catching for him to have conditions he
needs, no chance the last two times on ground to quick and raced
without a shoe last time which could have been the reason he looked
so awkward on the ground in that race. First time he has run under
these conditions since showing his best form in his earlier days he
could be well handicapped and even though the last race at Windsor
isn’t working out to well, he should be more at home under these
conditions today, Marc Halford rides him well.
Selection –
Know the Law 1 pt @ 40/1,
Lochiel 1 pt @ 33-1 &
Nur Tau 1 pt @ 28/1
Best of luck all
