4.15 Lingfield Ashurst Wood
Handicap Class 3 1M Standard
Horses to Consider
Twilight Star – Made up for a tardy
start the time before to win last time out at Sandown and should
confirm that running with Zero Cool as he continues his progression
through the handicap ranks and Ted Durcan keeps the ride to follow
up his win on the horse last time. The Mile trip should be ok and
the change of surface for this Gelded son of Green Desert should be
no problem having already shown that he handles Polly track with a
very green effort behind Dudley Docker at this track back in March.
With the improvement and the speed figures I have for this horse he
should figure in the finish as the old guard take on the 3yo in this
handicap.
Master Of Arts – Likely to be under
bet as he comes into this handicap of the back of a 3L victory on
turf for Sir Mark Presscot and all the trainers runners are usually
too short when they are in form and coming on to this surface where
he has proven to enjoy. Benefited for the step up to a mile in his
last two runs he has more to come over this trip and in my opinion
will benefit for a mile and quarter when the Sir will want to step
him up in trip again. One of the leading fancies for this handicap
with the 3yo allowance helping him out against more seasoned pros
and should be involved in the finish of this handicap even though in
my view is on the short side for this handicap.
My Shadow – Has only won a couple of
poor races, but for a class 3 handicap this isn’t the strongest of
races so there is reason to believe he has a chance of running a big
race in this handicap today. The mile win at Kempton was done easy
enough to suggest the horse has the ability to contest higher
handicaps then he did that day and the time suggested it wasn’t to
bad for the level he was running at. The run on turf didn’t yield
too much promise, while at Great Leighs last time was far to keen
and made little headway to late, a return to this track where his
pilot is so effective could make him leave the last two runs behind
and improve on the Kempton form as he is unexposed enough to have
some improvement still to come.
Ratings – Twilight Star 98, Master of Arts, My Shadow 96,
Elna Bright 95, zero Cool, Bahinio 94, The Snatcher 93, Sailent 92,
Silver Hotspur 78
Verdict – A tight
little handicap, with several possible improvers in the race. With
Lingfield being a course that so much come from behind with a
rattle, the desperate pace angle in this race suggest that hold up
horses, Master of Arts and My Shadow may just struggle to give their
true running and run to the level I would expect. The Race on the
whole isn’t the strongest of class 3 handicaps and it should go to a
horse that is improving as the talented Bahinio is still failing to
show the ability he does posses, this could well leave the path
clear for Twilight Star to come home in first position, as he
continues to progress the right way and should be well placed of the
heels of the early leaders.
Selection – 2 pts
win Twilight Star @ 8/1
Best of luck all
