Horses to consider
Re Barolo - Jimmy Quinn is a
interesting booking for this horse after riding a treble at this
track yesterday and the quick ground should help his performance
having shown plenty of speed on the all weather two runs back after
getting hampered at the start and still stamping his class on the
race in very good fashion to land that handicap and the run next
time in the Zetland Gold Cup back on turf at Redcar wasn't a
disappointing effort by no stretch of imagination as that handicap
was one of the better contested Zetland Gold cups in recent years
and the performance was up there with the best the runners have in
this handicap. Dropped 3lbs in weight for that run is a added bonus
on this unexposed type and there is more to come from the horse and
is one of the best handicapped horses in this field in my view as he
continues to go the right way for a useful handler who could have a
big season. The pace is certain to be strong in this handicap with
plenty of pace involved and with Mesbaah likely to be lit up with
the first time blinkers forcing that gallop over shorter this could
be set up for a closer, likely to be ridden just of the pace,
tucking in from draw 8 with the tongue strap on he could well be
produced at the right time to win over this galloping 9F that should
be ideal.
Free Offer - Ran a creditable
race on her return this season and this run should come at the right
time for the horse, as she looks to continue improving this season,
in what looks a below average class 2 handicap for the track. The
run at Newmarket last season, when just denied, catches the eye, as
the horse pulled very hard, and still managed to get within a head
of landing that race. She is still 3lbs higher then that run on
official ratings, but this isn't a overly strong race. With the
strong pace allowing the horse to settle better in her race, over
this shorter trip it might finally pay to be on side with this
horse, as John Dunlop's horses continue to have a strong season. The
ground should be on the right side of good for this horse who has a
touch of ability at above this level. With the ground on the quick
side, the booking of Eddie Ahern, who has won on this horse in the
past, there could be room for thinking that this is her race for the
season. Yet to achieve the dizzy heights of some of her rivals, she
may tame these today from a fair racing weight and go on to be one
of the best horses in this handicap.
Zero Tolerance - has a key
role to play in this handicap as he will cut out the running with a
few of these and if not getting drawn into a strong up front battle
with the now blinkered Mesbaah he may be one that sticks this trip
out better then the other front runners, the concern has to be that
he has not had the most ideal ground this season and the Beverley
run behind Full Victory showed that he is well handicapped again as
hr was just denied on ground that was quick enough for him. Seems to
handle quick ground better then he use to, but he does have the most
natural class in this field if you trail far enough back and given
that he isn't over used in terms of racing he does hold some of his
ability. If this were on ground with cut in he would be a certain
winner of this race of this weight I feel and that is enough for him
to make the shortlist from this low weight against these rivals.
Likely to find one too good though with the race maybe not run to
suit him with the lead being contested but could land a place and
deserves respect and a mention in this race, one to keep a close eye
on when running with cut.
Mesbaah - Another that is
likely to cut out the running even though draw 13 is unlucky for a
front runner to have over this trip, however he has first time
blinkers on today and that might re-ignite this horse to show his
best form as he has dropped away twice at this track so far this
season. Trained by Richard Fahey a master at landing handicaps at
this venue, he has a lot of eye-catching reasons to be considered
for this race. The mile run at Doncaster catches the eye from last
season where he was only beaten a length, given that performance and
the nature of this track and trip that mile performance suggest that
the drop back in trip is a positive and the fact that the blinkers
are on is something to note and if it wasn't for the fact he wont
get a easy time on the front end he could well be a decent bet in
this race.
Verdict – A
decent enough handicap, but by class 2 standard the form of most of
the runners coming into this race could be a shade below class 2
standards and I wouldn't start thinking about to many of these
landing future heritage handicaps this season. Re Barolo, with
improvement, could make up to a fair handicapper at this level and
the dark horse from Sir Michael Stoute is another that may have me
eating my words in time, but he needs to rapidly improve on the
maiden runs. Zero Tolerance is one to note on ground with cut, and
he should run another decent race today. With rain not arriving in
time, he is opposed here today. FREE OFFER looks certain to have
everything in place for a big run today and she should go very close
in this handicap, with everything in her favour. She can improve on
her form and Mesbaah is watched with the blinkers back on today and
should be noted where there any rapid market support for the horse.
