4.45 Haydock class 3 Handicap
1M Good to firm
Horses to consider
Farley Star – The unexposed horse in
this field is likely to start fav for this handicap and with
improvement likely the Roger Charlton Filly could be ahead of the
handicapper after winning at Leicester last time. The jockey booking
isn’t the most eye catching, as Steve Drowne misses out on following
up on the horse and she is unknown on ground that could be too quick
for her underfoot. A galloping track is ideal for her and she should
improve on her sole start over a mile having achieved all her best
work so far over seven furlongs.
Fiefdom – Surprised to see this
horse at double figures for this race on Betfair as he is very
dangerously handicapped at a stone lower then what he has proven at
in the past. Saves his best runs for the all weather these days he
should be able to run a big race from low in the weights in these
class 3 handicaps. The recent form hasn’t been anything to write
home about but there have been some signs that he is coming back
into form and as he is very well handicapped at this level he should
go well providing that the ground has stayed on the quick side of
good. There isn’t much pace in this race and he should take a handy
position behind the front-runner.
Minority Report – Dandy Nichols will
be looking at this horse to win today to get into some big race
handicaps for his new yard and a horse that has talent could run a
big race from high up in the weights. Loves the ground quick and
stays a mile well in these conditions. The track shouldn’t be a
problem and looks very much the first string of the trainer’s pair
in this race, as White Deer has to be a doubtful stayer. If it stays
dry he could continue the good form of the yard in this handicap.
Crocodile Bay – Can discount the
last run as the horse hated the soft ground when well beaten by mud
lark Exit Smiling and is better judged on his easy success the time
before in a small field at Beverley. Loves it quick and will
appreciate this mile track, he should be up in the van in this
handicap and that looks the place to be with a lack of pace likely
in this race and if Fergal Lynch can kick at the right time he may
have enough about him to hold on despite the high weight for this
handicap. Quite exposed he has little improvement in him and maybe
vulnerable to a lighter weighted rival.
Verdict – A decent
enough class 3 event and Crocodile Bay should go well, despite the
weight and a lot of these could be more depending on the rain
hitting the track. The top of the ground performers should however,
give their running, and its clear that looking at the types in this
race that they expect it to be rattling fast underfoot. Minority
Report does catch the eye in this handicap ahead of Fiefdom. Farley
Star will be the most interesting runner in this race but Dandy
Nichols barely leaves a crumb behind when he is double handed in
these types of races and Minority Report looks likely to bounce back
to form tonight.
Selection – 3 pts
Minority Report @ 7-1 (BF8’s)
Best of luck all
