8.10 Hamilton Silver Bell class
2 Handicap Good 12F
Horses to Consider
La Vecchia Scuola - Hacked up in
good fashion in a low class handicap at this track last time and
comes into this class 2 handicap very much one to be on the side off
as she continues to impress. This handicap isn't what I would
describe as a typical class 2 handicap in quality as all horses
coming into this race haven't achieved what I would say is proper
class 2 handicap form and it is only a class 2 handicap on paper and
would be better suited by being a class 3 or a top class 4 handicap.
A drop in trip shouldn't be a problem for this horse and given that
conditions at the Scottish track should be in her favour she has a
solid chance on this rise in class under a penalty and would be
disappointing if she isn't in the mix up come the final furlong of
this race.
Lochiel - Won well last time at
Musselbrugh and seems to save his best for runs at that track, this
more undulating track shouldn't be a problem for this improving
horse and is another that looks handicapped to go well. Another up
in class after winning a weaker race he should have the form to mix
it with the best of these. Likely to be campaigned over hurdles in
time he is suited to this ground and has already shown that stamina
is in his locker for this race. With a strong pace up front he
should take a pull to track the pace from the midfield which could
be a concern for those that posses more of a turn of foot then him.
Gordansvile - Of the hold up horses
in this field the strong travelling Gordansvile should have a good
chance of staying on to land this handicap with Jim Goldie and
Fergal Lynch teaming up to very good effect in the past, no surprise
to see there has been money for this horse who is consistent even if
hard to win with and despite needing to improve in this handicap he
has a low weight and stays this trip very well so has to have a
solid enough chance. The undulations in the track shouldn't be a
problem for this horse as he ran a very fetching race at Goodwood in
his 3yo days where he was a little to keen early and made up a lot
of ground early on which may have cost him as plugged on to finish a
fair position and shouldn't have been 25-1 earlier on today.
Akraem - Sets the standard in this
handicap and rain would increase his chances having shown form a few
years ago to have a chance at this level, however he may be a little
high in the weights today despite the weakness of this class 2
handicap. Consistent over trips such as this and has struck up a
good relationship with the jockey. Fair effort last time at Goodwood
where he struck the front to be denied by a tarter in course
specialist Formax. Providing the ground doesn't turn quick he has
form as good as Gordansvile run at Goodwood in the last 2yrs as the
weight today.
Verdict –
I feel these four will make up the finishing places with maybe
Richard Fahey Sin city the most feared of the others in this race.
The pace of the race is all-important and that should help
Gordansvile styles of running at maybe dispense of the hot
favourite.
Selection –
2 pts Gordansvile
@ 9-1 (BF10's)
