4.30 Redcar – Straight Mile
Qualifier Handicap Class 3 1M G/F
Horses to consider
Gold Sovereign – Ran very well over
the further trip last time when pulling to hard to muster enough
speed to land that race. This race is a easier target for the horse
and the connections don’t usually waste to much time with handicaps
unless they feel this horse can fly the flag high for them in this
race, Been gelded over the winter he will no doubt be in the market
for a new stable come the autumn sales, but this season he will be
used for fun purposes in landing some handicap prizes along the way
for his powerful owners. The drop back to a mile should see Ted
Durcan letting him bowl along more freely on the drying ground and
he will be no doubt pressed for the lead by the well handicapped
Zero Tolerance in this race and the free going Ansell’s Pride.
Zero Tolerance – Has got plenty of
pace and after a very poor 2007 where he wasn’t right he returned
this season much more like himself under less aggressive tactics and
he could well track the pace today, the conditions may slightly be
against him here today with the ground drying, but he is suited to a
flat galloping mile and has handled better ground to a level that
would have him suited to this company. Going back to 2006 he had
class 2 form to his name and was at his peak in terms of recent
performances to go on and is most probably best judged on his last
run which has him in the melting pot for this today.
Hartstead – Is a bit course regular
and does seem to know how to run his best races here for Alan
Swinbank yard. The stable haven’t had the best of time so far this
season and this exposed horse isn’t a progressive type, but he is
proven around here over a mile and has a look of a horse that is
handicapped to go well at this class 3 level and there fore deserves
plenty of respect with Dean Mckeown on board and should come on for
the recent runs with conditions to suit today.
Reel Buddy Star – Looks overpriced
in this race from a feather weight and even though conditions
underfoot wont suggest that this weight will be a massive bonus, he
should benefit to come through to challenge of what looks likely to
be quite a generous pace up front with plenty of natural pace for
this horse to aim at. Recent form suggest he has a real chance of
this weight and is very unexposed as a handicapper so their could be
improvement to come, unlikely to have as much as the top weight in
terms of raw ability the fact he receives 2 stones in weight will
help his cause.
Verdict – An open
handicap at the weights and maybe the favourite is a class above
these, it will be informative today to see just how much he has come
on from being gelded over the winter and how he matches up against a
yardstick in Zero Tolerance who looked back to form, however with
conditions in his favour Alan Swinbank Runner could be the one to
side with at a generous price today.
Selection –
Hartstead 1 pt win @ 10/1 (BF11’s)
Best of luck all
