7.30 SEI Investment Handicap – Class 4 Good Ground 10F

Horses to consider

Aegean Prince – Richard Hannon has started this season in his usual style and his horses are best to follow up to Royal Ascot as his 2yo generally know their jobs first time out, his older handicappers have been seen to good effect also around this level and even though he isn’t renowned for landing the big handicaps he has a solid chance in winning this smaller race at Royal Windsor. The run recorded at this track to a unexposed type just over 30 days ago gives him a live chance in this class 4 handicap and that effort that day has him right in the mix in a handicap that isn’t the strongest in proven depth but has a mark of a improvers handicap. Already has shown form at a high level with a good place effort on handicap debut as a 3yo to Desert Dew over a mile, which could be his most ideal trip. However he has shown form over this far and Richard Hughes is back on top for this race tonight, which is an added bonus. The lack of pace in the race may well help this horse that has tactical speed.

Roodolph – Won two runs back and seemed to travel strongly last time before running around a bit and staying on all to late to land a decent little handicap. Still quite unexposed and is among five potential improvers in this field of seven runners. Looking at his scope and the way he ran last time he should come on again for that run and should be one to be very much involved in the finish with in this handicap. The slow pace may mean he has to take closer order as to my eye he hit a bit of a flat spot at Beverley Last time and with another small field and a less likely hood of a strong gallop on a easier track could well mean this horse gets tapped for a turn of foot in the finish, even though when he did respond for pressure he did finish off quite well.

Valrhona – Will no doubt be a short price with Frankie Dettori up top for a horse that is taking a drop in class after running with credit in a bunch finish in a fillies handicap at Ascot last time, however she does have a strong chance on the form book with improvement still likely and the weakness of this class 4 handicap in which she could well prove to be better then in the near future. You pay your price for a short priced fav in a handicap and with the Doncaster run over 10 furlongs maybe a stronger piece of form then the class 2 run against same sex group in which the runners were not covered by to much distance. She seems to handle most types of ground but she does need to improve having to carry the best part of 2 stone more then she did in that Ascot race which she had a feather weight on her back and maybe a little flattered by the proximity of the finishing positions as the top weight came out on top.

Krugerrand – The most exposed runner in the handicap has the best form in the last 2 months of all the runners even though he is not showing it at present with some average looking runs, he is very exposed and has seen better days but he may have dropped to a nice winner able handicap mark here today. Now 15lbs lower then when winning off a mark of 85 he gets weight all-round here. He is a hold up performer and needs a strong pace to work off here today, he isn’t likely to get the end to end gallop that he requires in this handicap and with the ground drying he may just find when they kick for home his old legs don’t carry him there quick enough.

Verdict – The favourite could well take this but she has got a much harder task then it seems with the weight and against the colts maybe making her vulnerable as her form isn’t a distance apart from these and maybe the proven AEGEAN PRINCE who ran a good race here just over 30 days ago could well be the horse to back at a decent enough price for his chances. Krugerrand will likely struggle to make up ground from off the pace to win this, while RooDolph needs a extra furlong or a much harder gallop to be winning this. The Jockey however may take up the running to land this race with very little pace assured from fantastic Morning.

Selection – 3 pts win Aegean Price @ 6-1 (7.2 BF)

Best of luck all
