7.50 Igindex.co.uk Handicap
(Class 3) 1M Good to soft
Horses to consider
Russian Epic – Hasn’t started the
season as well as he did as a 3yo but looks more then capable of
running a big race back here at Sandown where both of his past
efforts have been more then capable of what it is going to take to
win this class 3 handicap that is on the weak side. The improvement
the horse could show for the change in conditions underfoot catches
the eye and Philip Robinson is at the course, which is an added
bonus. Should be well fancied tonight with a better effort last time
he will have to be counted as disappointing if not running his race
tonight in a race that should suit his style of running with very
limited pace in the race.
Full Victory – Has started this
season well again and seems to hold his form for a more exposed type
in these sorts of handicaps. A winner over the stiff mile at
Beverley this season he should be more at home tonight with the cut
in the ground around here and maybe made light work of that narrow
victory as a well handicapped horse. This field is a bit below class
3-handicap form on what they all have achieved to date and it is
likely an improver or unexposed type will take the honours here
today. With him one of the most exposed runners in the field it
doesn’t look to promising for him, but given the run he showed to
win he has seemly improved a little more this season and could take
a hand in the finish here tonight.
Twilight Star – Fits the profile of
my idea of a winner in this race as this very unexposed 4yo has had
enough run to know his job and is in no way weighted out of it at
this level with expected improvement to come. A gelding by Green
Desert out of Heavenly Whisper I would take him to handle these
tacky conditions tonight as the sun bakes the track. Ran a
creditable race last time when slowly away over course and distance
and given how the field finished in a heap behind the winner that
was a good effort to get himself back into contention, the drying
conditions will suit and is likely to come on further for that run
and the return of Ted Durcan is very interesting.
Verdict – A
very tight handicap with plenty of potential improvers in this race,
the likely hood of one of the more exposed brigade winning this
handicap is quite unlikely and it isn’t a strong class 3 handicap
with barely any of these runners achieving that level and it is very
likely to fall to a improver in my view. The one that really has
taken the eye is Twilight Star who will handle the tacky conditions
of the dry ground and is very much on a upward curve. He would have
been a lot closer if it wasn’t for the tardy start last time here
and never had a chance with the winner who was up in the van,
tonight results as a much easier task for this former Godolphin
Inmate and the return to the saddle of Ted Durcan catches the eye,
the biggest danger is Russian Epic who has solid course form so far.
Selection –
Twilight Star 1 pt win @ 25-1
(BF26’s)
Best of luck all
