4.50 Folkestone – Handicap Class 3 (3yo+ 0-90) 10F Good to firm
1 – Ebert – Hard to win with, having just tasted the success once
in thirteen runs so far. Can often be slow away, which in this
small field shouldn’t be too much of a problem, as he should make up
ground easily enough. Has put together three cracking
runs at Goodwood and that track seems to be his best course. He
should be suited to this sharper test based on those performances,
but the only win so far came at Salisbury, where the dtiff finish
helped him to gather in the leaders and forge ahead in the final
furlong. Stepping up to 10F for the first time on breeding should
suit and he did improve for 9F last time. The form of that race
doesn’t look too bad with Emerald Wilderness running a solid enough
race at HQ next time to the progressive Teslin. He maybe
would have finished closer, if not checked in the Goodwood race after
travelling well. Cheek pieces are used today in the hope of bringing out
the best in him and he is in with a chance in a mainly exposed bunch
of handicappers, but needs to prove he stays.
Tissue Price- 3/1
2 – Secret Liaison – Entered in handicaps for later in the week
and bypasses this for those.
3 – Press the Button - Has gone the right way this season and was
only just denied last time against a unexposed type in Webbow at
Sandown. Suited very much to today’s trip and going, he has proved
himself well at this track before and should once again give his
running, even though he has been raised yet another 3lbs for the 2nd.
The form of that Sandown race hasn’t been franked yet, with the 3
just behind all failing to give their running next time out and the
form may need taking a cautious approach to it. Goes well in small
fields and Kerrin Mcevoy has won previously on the horse at Bath.
Tissue Price – 9/2
4 – Inchloch – Pulled out in hope for Soft ground at Ascot later
in the week. Non-Runner
5 – Six of Diamonds – Beat Gold Hush last time,
only to lose it in
the steward’s room and will be looking for compensation here running
without a penalty. William Buick keeps the ride after the
disqualification and takes off his handy 3lbs in weight here.
Finished well behind Teslin prior to that race at Bath and has found
potentially a more difficult race with the likes of Ebert included
in this race. However, the conditions and trip are very much to the
horses liking and he has the scope to improve from current mark. The
Course shouldn’t be to sharp and he does well on quirky tracks as
proved with his form at Bath Has considerable distance advantage
over Noticeable for whom has lost his way this season.
Tissue Price – 5/4
6 – Marsam – Tried over hurdles in Ireland and could be having a
prep run for that code in the coming weeks. Well at home on ground
with cut in, he hasn’t run without credit on a sounder surface in
the past. Reverting back to the flat in hope of installing some much
needed confidence in the horse he is yet to win a handicap on the
flat and may well be past his actual best which would give him
strong claims in this race today from the current handicap mark.
Market should be the best guide after a year of the track.
Tissue Price – 20/1
7 – Master Pegasus – Non Runner on
account of the ground.
8 – Noticeable – Interesting that they take on
Six Of Diamonds
again here, despite finishing last of six at Bath last time. Much
more at home on a sharp track, having landed his maiden at this
course, his performance at Chester three runs back was just as good
as the performance recorded by Six of Diamonds last time. A
turning track, such as Folkestone, should help him along. Favoured by
the ground and the trip, he could be the one to benefit against Six
of Diamonds in this field today and much better is expected around
here. Trainer does well at this track and the return of Darryl
Holland to the plate may just have him with in striking range in
this race.
Tissue Price – 9/1
Tissue –Six of Diamonds 5/4, Ebert 3/1, Press The Button 9/2,
Noticeable 9/1, Marasam 20/1
Verdict – A
depleted field' but the five runners all have some sort of claims on
their best form. Press The Button is a consistent performer and
should land place money on the exchanges, while Ebert has to prove
that even though this is a easier race, he has the stamina for 10F
under top weight. Six of Diamonds could take all the beating, but it
is interesting that Mick Channon who does so well here and
especially in all age handicaps has re-apposed with Noticeable, who
should be much better for the change to this track.
