3.55 Yarmouth – the Golden
Jubilee Trophy Handicap Class 3 (3yo+0-90) Good
1 – Yarqus – Often finishes runner up in his races and is
actually quite consistent in all the top races, where he is often
sent off at big prices, deserves to win a handicap and may be good
enough to beat these on a drop down in company in a similar way to
Players Please was yesterday. Has improved for the step up in trip
to 10F he is relatively unexposed over this trip having been kept in
the main to races over a mile and there could be more to come here
today, the form of that Sandown run where they finished in a heap
has a mix look to it but Yarqus consistency hasn’t done him any
favours with the handicapper and he has another 2lbs to overcome,
but this is easier and with improvement to come may go on over this
trip to surpass his run in the Royal Hunt Cup.
Tissue Price – 9/2
2 – Wind Star – Has started
to become disappointing, as he is yet to build upon a good 2nd to
Flipando in the Zetland Gold Cup, back in May. He seemed to get done
for toe early on in his last race at Sandown, when staying on at the
death, to finish a never nearer 7th. On that running, he looks held
by Yarqus, despite the 4lbs swing in the weights. However, his
trainer is in flying form at present, and today jockey takes off a
handy 3lbs, giving him claims to turning around the form. This
flatter galloping track should suit him better, having gone so well
on a flat left handed track in the past. The ground suits and a more
handier role in this race, could see him go close, as last time was
the first time he had managed to finish out of the frame over this
trip. His losing run is totalling up, but I think that he is able to
win off this mark, thought it's still 7lbs higher than when last
successful.
Tissue Price – 5/1
3 – Fusili – Was a very
progressive filly as a 3yo on the polly track and ran very well in
some listed events on that surface, her turf mark paid for those
runs on the all weather and her task has been made a impossible task
with listed handicaps and level weight races being what she has been
given to run in. Well beaten a glorious goodwood in a listed
handicap she was eased 5lbs in the weights to run a much more
promising race over today’s trip at Doncaster just last week and has
been turned out quite quickly while she is still in good form. Off
the same mark as that runs she is 6lbs lower then her best handicap
performance on the all weather. Quite exposed over 10F and on turf
she has got some decent place efforts to her name and a repeat of
the 2nd to Soapy danger as a 3yo wouldn’t have to far off in this
race today on her return to handicap company.
Tissue Price – 10/1
4 – Seeking The Buck – One of
the few truly progressive types in the handicap and one that has
been on a upwards curve without actually winning as many races as he
should have so far this season. Looked the winner at Newbury before
just getting outstayed in a ladies handicap and may have been the
case of the weight telling that day as he isn’t overly big. No
surprise to see him come out on top next time out when dropped back
a furlong to 11 at Haydock and seems to enjoy that trip with a good
2nd to Sanbuch who was beaten at York last time out (result of a
muddling race). Bolted up at Haydock, there are question marks over
the form of that race as Lord Theo a consistent horse over sprint
trips and a mile filled the 3rd spot and there could be a case made
out that it was rather a weak affair. Still there is improvement to
come from this horse and you can only beat what is put in front of
you and he done it with authority with different tactics and may
well be able to follow up despite the 7lbs rise in the weights and
rise in class. May revert to front running tactics over this shorter
trip.
Tissue Price – 4/1
5 – Active Asset – Has gone
well here in the past when with Mick Channon and Micky Quinn does
well with his horses here so there is reason to believe the change
of handlers was with this in mind. Often best with the sun on his
back the cooler breeze around at this time of year has yet to see
him go well in the past but he is dropping down to a handicap mark
he was winning off when with a top yard. Suited by good racing
ground his recent performance at Sandown didn’t give much hope to
his followers with a run that never threatened to see him winning
and better must be expected today with course, ground and a trip he
has won over (12F maybe his best) twice in the past giving him hope
of returning to the winners enclosure. Interesting to see how he
gets on today but he still looks in the grip of the handicapper and
may be best backed next year here with the trainer on the cold list
at present.
Tissue Price – 25/1
6 – Gyroscope – Another 3yo
that makes this handicap interesting with on breeding this filly by
Spinning World should carry on her progression to 4yo as the steps
up in distance will suit from the mile trip she has been contesting
so far in her short career. Windsor scorer when breaking her maiden
tag on first run of this season she has had 5 handicaps run so far
and has strong form line with Perfect Star who has gone on to beat a
listed winner at Salisbury since that run. Gyroscope allotted a mark
of 80 on handicap debut has ran with credit on all her runs and has
been mainly kept right handed tracks but the one run at Newbury
behind Folly lodge doesn’t read to badly with the 2nd winning a
listed race and the winner tying in with a listed winner in Lovelace
so overall her 3yo assignments haven’t been the easiest. With
improvement expected from the step up in trip she has in the main
exposed handicappers to beat over a more favourable trip but there
has to be concerns she couldn’t muster more last time at Windsor
against similar rivals. Too much rain would be a major negative.
Tissue Price – 6/1
7 – Le Soleil – Gives an
unexpected feel to the race with connections of this horse masters
of landing gambles and any heavy market activity usually spells if
this horse has got enough about him to win. Won twice from 4 starts
this season he overcome a hammering from the handicapper to win of
70 at Newmarket albeit in a very poor race and was well held when
5th at York on Heavy Ground under a 7lbs rise in the weights. The
ground may have been more down to that defeat given how soft it was
as he was hanging like he wasn’t enjoying it. Both wins this season
have come on better ground but over 12F and this could potentially
be a little on the sharp side with the win over 10F coming in a low
grade handicap. Partnered with Tom Quelly who is 1-1 on this horse
this season he takes over from Jamie Spencer who has ridden the
horse on the last 3 runs. Caught a tarter in Greek well at Sandown
on only try over this trip this season but is 10lbs higher and that
rival was well in command.
Tissue Price – 12/1
8 – Voliere – Out of the
handicap by the 1lb wont be too much of a problem for this horse if
her trainer fancies her and the booking of Jamie Spencer is an
eye-catching booking given his riding at the track in the past
yielding a 1 in 5 winning ride. Yet to really sparkle since early
days in Ireland and is currently 0-7 since joining Stuart Williams
yard and has dropped in the handicap 7lbs since finishing in the
last three on first start for the yard. Has ran well of this current
mark against Third Set, Guacamole and most recently Viva La Flag at
Newbury on first start over this trip for current trainer, lost 2nd
close home which may have helped her avoid any penalties and comes
into the Autumn as a potential winner with cut in the ground, I
don’t believe enough rain will get into the ground today for her and
Yarmouth often dries quickly so she may be best noted for future
handicaps in the next month for the yard, but another try over this
10F is a positive.
Tissue Price – 8/1
Tissue – Seeking the Buck 4/1, Yarqus 9/2, Wind Star 5/1,
Gyroscope 6/1, Voliere 8/1, Fusil 10/1, Le Soiell 12/1, Active Asset
25/1
Verdict –
Gyroscope is a interesting runner stepped up in trip today and this
daughter of Spinning World is certainly likely to benefit the
stiffer test of stamina today. She should appreciate the distance
based on her pedigree. Seeking The Buck has to overcome the drop in
trip, as well as the rise in class, and also the handicap mark. It
may be to much too overcome. Yarqas drops down in class to aim at a
much deserved win and looks a place banker. However, Wind Star was
my fancy at Sandown last time and didn’t go a yard until staying on.
A more conventional track such as this, may prove decisive and
he is the choice with the market needing to be watched for the
bottom two of the handicap.
Selection –
Wind Star 2pts win @ 8-1 (9.0 BF)
