4.55 Doncaster Audi Stakes
Handicap class 2 (3yo+ 0-110) 12F GD-FM
1 - Classic Punch - Listed
class winner this term when winning a small field run race over this
trip when beating Hard Top on soft ground in comfortable fashion,
That rival has been a bit disappointing and maybe using the Windsor
run last time when denied by Dragon Dancer is a better level of form
for this race. Richard Quinn gets on well with the horse but top
weight in this competitive handicap may just be a bit to much for
the horse to overcome in what looks a far much more tougher test
then the level weight races he has been contesting and for him to
win this he will need to put up a group level performance which I'm
not sure he has enough in his locker to overcome.
Tissue Price - 12/1
2 - Britannic - Given a tough
task in this handicap to give weight away to all but one rival and
looks to have paid for the small field performances in France that
could have flattered him of a slow pace and the English handicapper
has taken no chances here. Flopped over hurdles in first start for
Richard Guest and Tom Tate has been given the task of trying to find
a way of getting this horse back to winning ways in handicaps off a
mark of 105.
Tissue Price - 33/1
3 - Lake Poet - Dual winner
this season at Epsom at a course that suits his style of running and
is as good as ever based on the cracking 2nd to Championship Point
at Goodwood another quirky course that suits his style of galloping.
Suited to quick ground over this trip, The galloping long striding
nature of this track isn't certain to help him produce the same
level of form that has seen him progress to this high handicap mark
and others are likely to be more at home in this contest today.
Tissue Price - 10/1
4 - Rayhani - Returned in
good form when bolting up over 12F at Newmarket and will appreciate
the return to this trip today, after failing to build on his
seasonal return over trip further at Goodwood. The course wasn't to
blame for those flops, and it was more down to the harder tasks of
level weights and trip. The return to quick ground over this trip,
and to a track that suits, should see him running to his form. The
9lbs rise in the weights from that Newmarket race is likely to make
life tougher, but the jockey booking is a big bonus to this horse,
helping out to level of that rise in the weights and is well worth
his 3lbs claim.
Tissue Price - 5/1
5 - Camrose - Always of
interest in these handicaps and is the most exposed runner in the
field today. Given a hard task against potential pattern class
opponents his best hope looks to claim a place. Jimmy Fortune does
well with the horse having made the money on 8 occasions, more
consistent on ground with give in then fast ground that will be the
case today he is a distance winner and has solid form on a flat
galloping track based on a good effort at York when responding well
to the blinkers to beat a field that most probably was a more
exposed band of handicappers then this today.
Tissue Price - 10/1
6 - Rampillion - Very
unexposed 4yo only given 3 runs so far and there is no problems with
him going fresh and the biggest concern may be the going today
having been kept to ground with cut in on all 3 starts. Unlucky to
not keep his 100% record when just denied by Folio over a sharp 10F
and no surprise that they have stepped the son of Daylini up in trip
today based on that run. On breeding the ground and trip should suit
and is one of two runners for Godolphin today in this handicap and
has to be of interest with his progressive profile and the booking
of Richard Hills a good one for the yard in the past.
Tissue Price - 2/1
7 - New Guinea - Another for
the boys in blue and one that was pulled out 24hrs earlier with this
in mind today. Another making his seasonal reappearance having been
purchased out of Michael Jarvis yard. More exposed then his stable
mate he is proven over these middle distance trips and handles quick
ground on what we saw as a 3yo. Out of the two Goldolphin runners he
is more likely to benefit from the run having improved with racing
last year and is better kept on the go. Sharper tracks in the past
have been more ideal and maybe the Windsor handicap his stable mate
was beaten in last year is the race he is being aimed at after this
today.
Tissue Price - 8/1
8 - Galactic Star - Won at
York last time over this trip from Dunaksin a regular in those
handicaps and Sir Michael Stoute will be looking for him to progress
up to a better level after today. The level of his form is decent in
the main and is one that is proven over this trip and the ground but
needs to find further improvement to win what looks a hot heat
today. By Gaileo he is one of the classiest bred horses in the race
and Ryan Moore got a good tune out of the horse last time. The flat
galloping track should suit and there is reason to believe he could
progress from bottom weight in this handicap, but 3lbs out of the
handicap makes it a tougher assignment.
Tissue Price - 4/1
Tissue - Rampillion 2/1, Galactic Star 4/1, Rayhani 5/1,
New Guinea 8/1, Lake Poet, Camrose 10/1, Classic Punch 12/1,
Britannic 33/1
Verdict – A
very good-looking handicap today and most of these will contest
listed and group 3 races in the near future. The Godolphin pair are
interesting after long breaks, while Rayhani and Galactic Star are
likely to give them a good match. Classic Punch sets the standard of
ability in this handicap and at the weights, it will be
disappointing if something didn't come out on top in this race today
at the foot of the handicap.
Selection –
Rampillion 2pts
win @ 9-2 (5.5 BF)
