5.10 Sandown Vaillant Handicap
class 3 (3yo+ 0-90) 10F Good to firm
1 Zonnergem A solid 2nd
to Ravarinno at Beverley over this distance last month has not been
held up to strongly with the winner disappointing yesterday under a
weight rise at Doncaster. The 9yo was returning from a break after
flopping over hurdles back at the start of May and may have come on
for the run last time. Has form tied in with Impeller who gives us a
link to another horse in this field and with little change in the
current mark he may struggle to land this handicap against rivals
who have held there form better. Exposed handicapper who never runs
to often, quick ground suits but he isnt easiest to win with and
has failed in 12 attempts to win a race over this trip.
My Tissue Price 9/1
2 Seabow Soft ground
winner over 10F for the boys in blue at Nottingham a track that they
often pick up lower class handicaps at, this son of Rainbow Quest
has had very little racing so far in his career and at the age of 4
could still progress to a decent level. Not over worked this season
he was no match for the classy Cabinet over this course and distance
back in July and wasnt much better when trying to concede a
mountain of weight on quicker conditions at HQ last time. The course
suits as he stayed on well here last time and on breeding this
should be his ideal condition but he has shown that he is a shade
better on softer going then likely today. A step up in trip could
help him further.
My Tissue Price 4/1
3 Pagan Sword Has a good
chance based on the form line with Impeller here last time in which
that rival returned to form for the change of stables. Ran here
twice and the first time he flopped. The course does suit with 10F
being his ideal trip and the easier opponents this time around off
the same mark should help with a useful 7lbs being taken of his
back. Providing it stays dry, there is no reason why he shouldnt go
close to landing this handicap today. Sometimes he is tardy away but
the small field and lack of pace should have him close enough to
strike from off the pace today. Has the beating of Del Mar Sunset on
lbs to length workings.
My Tissue Price 5/1
4 Press the Button Quite
exposed for a 4yo having been heavily campaigned this season so far
and could be in the grip of the handicapper after winning a fairly
moderate Bath handicap by 3L in which he was penalised 6lbs in the
weights for. The run at this level behind Night Cru at Newmarket was
close to his best performance so far in his career and the Newmarket
course clearly suits so the fact he had cut in the ground, which he
handles to a certain Extent and was still beaten fairly far he does
look likely to struggle to win at this level unless finding some
improvement which may come when tackling rain softened ground in the
coming months.
My Tissue Price 7/1
5 Folio Looks like he
could be being lined up at retaining his Windsor Prize, which he won
narrowly, last season. Was in better form then, then he is now and
is well handicapped if finding that level of form for this season.
Has been improving with every run so far and has a chance to reverse
form with Rule of Life with a more experienced jockey and with
Seabow on 2lbs better terms. Is however unlikely that he will
reverse the form and even though he enjoys a right handed track he
is shadow of himself of last season where he was contesting all the
top handicaps with consistency. Best watched today.
My Tissue Price 12/1
6 Active Asset - Well
beaten in most of his latest starts for this yard after starting so
well when transferred out of Mick Channon Yard. The handicapper is
giving him a chance on the best of his handicapping form, which has
seen him win at this level in the past. Dropped to within 1lb of his
highest winning mark he is unlikely on what he has showed of late to
win this handicap today. The booking of Robert Havlin looks like a
spare ride going and it may be best to catch him again when he is
running on the all weather this winter.
My Tissue Price 14/1
7 Del Mar Sunset Top
handicapper on his day and will struggle at the weights to confirm
Newmarket form with Pagan Sword. Hasnt run to badly of late his
performance behind Lemonette has him needing to improve even though
the 2nd and 3rd have franked the form well. Another older
handicapper looking for form, his last win at Newmarket was his
9-career win and his 3rd turf win in which all have come on rattling
fast ground, the conditions today are sure to suit and if he was to
put his best foot forward off this mark under the handling of Liam
Jones he could well be up to winning his 10th race.
My Tissue Price 8/1
8 Brief Goodbye- Been kept
on the go this season with some sound efforts in handicaps but was
flattered by the close 2nd in a small field muddling affair over
course and distance to Greek well. Better judged on his form to
Cabinet and Robustian he has continued to tumble in the handicap
since returning this season in a Newbury handicap behind Red Gala an
impressive winner yesterday at Doncaster. Looks like he has
regressed as the season has gone on he has ground to make up on Del
Mar Sunset and Pagan Sword on Newmarket running and the performance
here last time was a very poor effort. Regular at this track he may
have enough of a turn around in the weights to reverse running with
Seabow, but the 2lb out of the handicap doesnt help his cause.
My Tissue Price 20/1
9 Rule of life Made light
work of a 9f handicap here two runs back, but the 2nd let the form
down over this 10f trip when finishing behind Brief Goodbye. Given a
easy time in that handicap up front the form of that race looks one
not to trust as horses finishing further down the field have run
with much more credit then those closer up. Not disgraced over 9F
behind Caravel at Goodwood even though no chance with the winner, he
should improve for the step up in trip even though likely to come
into his own as a 4yo over middle distances. Richard Hughes takes
the ride for this boss, but interestingly enough both wins have come
when tried with another jockey.
My Tissue Price 4/1
Tissue Rule of Life, Seabow 4/1, Pagan Sword 5/1, Press
The Button 7/1, Del Mar Sunset 8/1, Zonnergem 9/1, Folio 12/1,
Active Asset 14/1, Brief Goodbye 20/1
Verdict Two
progressive horses in the field could take centre stage in this
handicap today, but it is in the main full of exposed handicap types
dropping down the handicap. Pagan Sword could potentially have the
best form with a good 5th to Impeller over course and distance
standing out. He is well weighted to reverse the Newmarket form.
Seabow could appreciate further in time and also has claims, while
Rule of Life looks a typical sort to progress in the next 12 months.
