4.55 Doncaster Broncroft AHT
Handicap class 2 (3yo+ 0-110) 10F Gd to Firm
1 – Fairmile – Winner of the
John Smith cup last year at York over this trip today and was an
improving 4yo in handicaps last year and carried that form over to
good benefit when winning a big race handicap in Dubai at the start
of the year. Been of the track for 188 days and makes his belated
return today for the boys in blue off a career high handicap mark of
105 and connections will be looking at future listed events no
doubt. His level of form is up there with the best of the form on
offer in this handicap, but this is the first time he has been asked
to carry such as high weight. Goes well fresh he handles rattling
fast ground well and has had previous experience of this track.
First start in the colours of Godolphin and certain to give his
running if handling the weight.
My Tissue Price – 13/2
2 – All the Good – Winner
over further this season when coming from last to first to outstay
his rivals he was being niggled early in that race and did well to
stick with them as the race fell into his lap. Only a small rise in
the weights has had him running ok races in defeat and he is dropped
back to a trip that he hasn’t contested since last season. A winner
over this trip when winning a bog standard maiden on the all weather
he has improved for the step up in trip and even though the flat
galloping nature of the track will suit there is reason to believe
the right handed tracks are more to his liking with a longer race.
The Doncaster straight may suit his long striding finish on rattling
ground but this looks a shade to tough.
My Tissue Price – 20/1
3 - Star Of Light – Recorded
his first win in a year at Newmarket over 10F on what can be best
described as rattling fast ground. That was a case of dictating the
moderate gallop from the front under Richard Hughes and kicking on
at the right time to stick out the trip well enough to give him a
shout in this today, however he is unlikely to benefit from the run
of the race and cases can be argued that the Newmarket race wasn’t
the strongest of handicaps he is likely to contest. The run last
time behind Greek Wells reads much more solid as he wasn’t beaten to
far in that handicap and showed that the 3lbs rise wasn’t to harsh,
dropped back down 1lb he is likely to run his usual solid race in a
bid to confirm form with the disappointing favourite that day
Heavens Know.
My Tissue Price – 8/1
4 – Red Gala – Sir Michael
Stoute has a solid looking hand in this race with his lightly raced
4yo and his unexposed 3yo as he bids to retain his championship
title. Readily disposed of Samurai Way over 10F at Newbury after
clearly showing his ability in a rampant victory at Brighton over
12F. The 2nd of that Newbury race has gone on to show the form up
quite well with solid efforts over further. The concern of this
Newbury form has to be the magnitude of Instructor to the finishing
positions. The 144 day break is of no concern with the son on
Sinndar already proving best fresh this season and there is likely
more left in the tank. Everything points to big run with trip,
ground and the course very much to his liking and it would be no
surprise if he was to continue the owners good form at present and
defy the 9lbs rise in the weights with natural improvement.
My tissue price – 3/1
5 – Benandonner – Can argue
that he needed to be found a race with a load of disappointing types
in to get his head in front for Richard Fahey since joining the yard
and becoming very frustrating, better form has been around the mile
to 9F distance and this 10F at solid handicap pace may have him
struggling, however there isn’t a lot of pace in this race and he
may have enough tactical speed to overcome this. Back up in weight
to a career high mark he has some good effort over 10F and even
though he has better results on a soft surface he has had some
cracking runs on quick ground. The last effort over a mile at York
is good form against the improving The Illes and is currently in
good heart at present, but may have wanted a easier assignment over
10F then this.
My Tissue Price – 14/1
6 – Heavens Know – Sent of a
strong favourite of a 10F handicap at York and must have been
regarded as a flop to finish down the field after weakening out of
contention. Certainly better is expected on his 2nd run back as you
can imagine tiredness did set in against a competitive field and it
would be no surprise to see him bounce back to form with some good
efforts as a 3yo on the pick of his form. Handles quick ground and
10F is ideal trip for him based on what he achieved as a 3yo in
which he stayed on to win impressively over Chester sharp 10F. 7lbs
rise in the weights for that win has been meet with a ease of 2lbs
for this and there could be more to come from son of Halling.
My Tissue Price – 5/1
7 – Chantaco – Soft ground course
and distance winner when 3yo and has improved since that handicap of
77. Clearly liked the left handed galloping track as he bolted up of
a nice racing weight that day and has since gone on to win the
Zetland Gold cup last season on better ground. Has a massive weight
turn around with the improved Fairmile on John Smith running last
season and would have claims if the 107 days of the track has
reignited his enthusiasm for the game after trailing in last when
last seen in the Zetland Gold cup this term. Dropped 3lbs he is back
on the same mark as when carrying 9 stone to victory in Redcar
premier handicap race and even though this is tougher race on
official ratings he has claims with the course clearly suiting and
the best of his form having him well up to the task at the weights.
Has gone well fresh before.
My Tissue Price – 13/2
8 – Ladies Best – The 2nd of
Sir Michael Stoute runners and the only 3yo to take his chance. The
age allowance on quick ground isn’t certain to be as much of a
benefit as it was a few weeks ago but there is a lot to like about
this son of King Best. Yet to win a race this season the 3yo have
been performing well against there elders and the 3rd to Heathstead
Maison doesn’t read to badly given the franking the winner made in
Ireland at the weekend, however Ladies Best was made to look one
pace by the top weight swooping home and there is reason to believe
the horse was much the best in the race and the Goodwood form
between the two should be overlooked as a race that many didn’t
handle the course in. His form suggest a big run may be had from the
foot of the weights today and the stable is double handed in this
race which is always something to take note off.
My Tissue Price – 13/2
Tissue – Red Gala 3/1, Heavens Know 5/1, Fairmile,
Chantaco, Ladies Best 13/2, Star of Light 8/1, Benandonner 14/1, All
the good 20/1.
Verdict – There
seems to be some cracking value in this handicap with Chantaco,
Ladies Best and Star of Light looking overpriced in a very tricky
handicap. Sir Michael Stoute is a shrewd operator and the market may
well spell disaster for this handicap with Red Gala highly fancied
to land the spoils. However this is a tricky little race and taking
short prices isn’t something I would suggest even though it may come
in (long run % wise value always comes out on top). As there is
value in this race the suggestion is for an improver and a returning
well-handicapped horse to be the pick and the 3 suggested as the
value we will stick with those.
Selection –
Ladies Best 2pts @ 11-1 (BF12-1) &
Chantaco 2pts @ 16-1 (BF18-1)
