4.20 Folkestone Invicta Motors Handicap class 4 (3yo+ 0-85) 5F Gd-FM

1 – Texas Gold – Cant be far of winning having been dropped another 3lbs in the handicap from a solid enough effort at Sandown last time, where the winner Indian Trail franked the form by following up on Saturday. Most of his wins have been recorded in the second part of the season and he is off a mark that is the lowest he has been since his 4yo days. Handles quick ground well and if getting the pace to aim at over 5F he should have a good chance, where is his 95th race. On Goodwood form a track that suits him he has around 6L to make up on Loch Verdi but a big 19lbs swing in the weights should help his cause even though his more recent efforts (prior to last run) has had him looking a shade below his best.

My tissue price – 8/1

2 – Loch Verdi – Has a big weight negative with Texas Gold here today on Goodwood running over 5F, but that is more due to the rapid dropping of the handicap mark with Texas Gold as she continues to not win but run well. A good effort over 6F last time proved that she is still in good heart with the winner following up next time out. Had Misaro well behind him on the other side of the track at Donnie (split seemed no bias) and the drop back to 5F may help both rivals today. Yet to show the form of last season over 5F she may have benefited from a lighter campaign having gone well fresh this season and without the claimer on board this time her task isn’t helped at the weights against Misaro and Texas Gold.

My Tissue price – 6/1

3 – Bluebok – Well supported last time at Chester and has form that ties in with Loch Verdi, Misaro and Texas Gold this season so the formlines are well represented in this handicap today. The run at Chester was a good effort but he could never reel in the winner that day (hard to peg back leaders at track) so could come out of the race as a moral winner, 3lbs worse off with Misaro for a couple of lengths, he most probably had the better run of the race over this quick 5F with a ideal draw. The goodwood form has him closely matched with Texas Gold and Loch Verdi and all 3 should be separated by around a length on lbs to length workings. Sharp tracks such as this suits and should go close.

My Tissue price – 5/1

4 – Misaro – Been in thumping form this summer and should once again be on the premises over the minimum distance, having recovered well from a start where he lost room and place, and was staying on well at the finish to suggest he is still in good heart. The swap of a 3lbs claimer for a 5lbs claimer is interesting as he was dropped 2lbs for that 4th at Chester and the return to Folkestone, where he has solid form at, and reverting to front running tactics from a favourable draw is likely to give him extra claims. On Ascot sprint form, he has claims to reverse form with Loch Verdi over 5F and has a good chance in this handicap.

My Tissue Price – 3/1

5 - Safari Mischief – Course and distance winner who has been in good form this summer winning at both Brighton and Lingfield on the all weather this summer, where he has been lightly campaigned. Fair enough to say that both wins have come at a low level against some frustrating types and that he needs more in this better class of race, but he has got some solid form with a cracking run at Goodwood over 5F last time where he had Misaro 1L back. The weights favour his rival today over this minimum trip and the form of the race stacks up well against his rivals so another close bid should be had here.

My Tissue Price – 5/1

6 – Daddy Cool – First of two 3yo in this handicap today, which gives it that extra edge to the race and one that is quite a speed ball on fast ground so could head them all off to make the running, as to whether he is good enough to stick it out against older more progressed rivals is to be seen as his recent form wouldn’t suggest he is anything more then a average handicapper. Last over 5F last time at Goodwood in a race that may hold up against the same age group and the smaller field should help him, but overall he needs to improve despite dropping to a mark that he is invitingly weighted off.

My Tissue Price – 16/1

7 – Bridge It Jo – Ran a cracker at 50-1 in the all grey handicap at Newmarket 2 runs back and has to be regarded as a flop when encountering quick ground last time out at Ripon. Handles quick ground in general and is potentially more suited to a sharp six then a sharp five furlongs, where she encounters today even though her wins and place efforts have in the main come over 5F. Handicapped well enough to give her true running in this handicap she has a ideal jockey booking and the yard have shown some form recently given her claims and looks the likely 3yo to benefit today.

My Tissue Price – 8/1

8 – Matsunosuke – Was well fancied for a decent handicap at the July meeting, where he never really got going and made amends when beating subsequent winner she’s Minnie over 5F at Sandown a track that sees him to his best. This sharp 5F looks a shade on the quick side and he will be produced late as usual and a lot will depend on the pace of the race, which looks likely to be a fairly solid tempo. The latest 2nd at Sandown looks solid enough even though the winner made all against the rail and was a clear-cut winner, he left it to late and that may be the case again today. Ground and trip suits him clearly and trainer is doing very well with his limited runners at present.

My Tissue Price – 8/1

9 – Malapropisim – Another who could easily bounce out and make all in this handicap from bottom weight in this handicap. Still well handicapped on old form, he has had over 100 runs now and continues to hold a respectable level of consistency for Mick Channon. Best over the minimum trip he handles all sorts of ground and comes here in the hope of boosting his trainer’s impressive return at the course further. Beaten 2L my Matsunosuke at Sandown he meets that rival on 6lbs better terms and most probably at a track that suits him more then the Coogan runner. Has the beating of Bluebok on Newbury form but that rival ran well below his best being outpaced at Halfway and never travelling and has ground to make up on Safari Mischief for whom he is 7lbs better of at the weights with. Another likely to give his running makes for this to be a wide-open race.

My Tissue Price – 7/1

Tissue – Misaro 3/1,Safari Mischief, Bluebok 5/1, Loch Verdi 6/1, Malapropisim 7/1, Texas Gold, Bridge it Jo, Matsunosuke 8/1, Daddy Cool 16/ 1.

Verdict – A very open contest, where most of the field have a chance to land this prize and it should lead to some future winners, with a good solid pace giving it a true looking sprint handicap for this level. Loch Verdi could be the classy horse in the field, but she has looked frustrating so far this season and her form of last year has very much levelled off. Safari Mischief could be one that goes very close, while Matsunosuke will be hoping that they cut their throats in front as he will be arriving late under Jamie Spencer, However, Misaro looks likely to go well again after a solid start to the season has tailed off until recently and Ron Harris has his string running well at present. Texas Gold is monitored.

Selection – Misaro 1pt @ 4-1 (BF 5.0)
