Stakes Handicap class 4 (3yo+0-80) 1M Gd-FM
1 – Glencalvie – Top weighted
in this handicap and potentially vulnerable to a 3yo improver with
several in opposition today. Has the beating of one of the 3yo in
the shape of Lazy Darren based on Windsor running over a mile on
quick ground, worse off at the weights he is more straight forward
then his rival and has claims with just a 3lbs rise in the weights
to overcome today. Quick ground is ideal and if in the same mood
could go close to following up but stable mate looks the main hope
for yard.
My Tissue price – 12/1
2 – Salient – Quite a heavily
tried 3yo and has been contesting some fairly decent races so far
this season, yet to win a race this year his consistency so far this
season has seen the handicapper not give him any help at the weights
so far. Off the same mark as a cracking 3rd at Brighton he handles
quick ground such as this to very good effect and seemed balanced
for a big run at the downhill track. Has had the beating of 3 of
today’s rival and could be counted as a little unfortunate to have
been stopped at Kempton when finishing behind Lazy Darren of the
same terms as today’s race. 7F could well suit him better then a
mile is the major concern but should once again give his running
once again under Paul Doe.
My Tissue price – 6/1
3 – Don’t Panic – Been of the
track for over a month but comes from a race that has good form
lines leading into the race and been franked by the first two next
time out running 1-2 again. Peter Chapel-Hym has had a top season
and most of his youngsters have scored at some point this season and
it would be no surprise to see this handicapper go in at some point
in the next 6 or 7 weeks. Paired with Kerrin Mcevoy who seemed to
get a tune out of last time, he has been eased a further 2lbs and
could be well handicapped here today. Yet to show too much of his
best form on good to firm ground in handicaps he did go well here on
debut on similar ground today, the mile trip may stretch his
stamina.
My Tissue Price – 8/1
4 – Music Note – Doesn’t
handle cut well enough and his last effort at Sandown can be
overlooked. Hung left under pressure the time before, when finishing
behind Salient at Brighton. He finds himself much better off at the
weights, with a young claimer on board. Consistent enough on better
ground. with 3 good efforts this season against some promising
handicappers. The 2lbs lower mark has him well handicapped against
Salient, with the weight for age scale starting to tip it back to a
more even scale against the 3yo. Likes to make the running could get
involved in a battle up front, but this right handed down hill track
may see him more to his best.
My Tissue price – 6/1
5 – Hansomelle – No chance
latest in a fillies and mares listed event in which she was
outclassed and should be better suited back against handicappers.
One of the more exposed runners in the field she finds herself a
massive 12lbs higher then when she bolted up at Lingfield proving
that she has a liking for that track having beaten Mugeba
convincingly there earlier in the season, the use of cheek pieces
seem to have had a effect on her and she is likely to run her race
again, but the handicapper should have caught up with her now after
two massive hikes and she faces much more promising rivals today.
My tissue price – 8/1
6 – Murrin - Wasn’t helped by
hanging left when finishing last of 4 to Salient as a 2yo over 7F
and has no weight gain from his earlier days on that rival. The
booking of Jimmy Fortune is a positive one for the yard and there
may be reason to believe he has improved for almost a year under his
belt. Lightly enough raced this season this will be only his 4th
start of the campaign and the course and distance win gives him some
claims even though that race was quite substandard for this track.
Needs to improve on most recent running behind Cnoc Moy in which he
never figured and was bitterly disappointing with no excuses made
and the main hope is that quick conditions have the desired effect.
My Tissue Price – 10/1
7 – Spriggan – Sent of a
short priced favourite to finally get his head in front for a
trainer that is improving with every season. Consistent performer
who doesn’t like getting his head in front he was found a easy
assignment last time in which he made all unchallenged and its
unlikely that he will get the same run of the race this time around.
Ran well in a handicap of 77 to Big Noise that hasn’t worked out as
strong form overall and the 1lb higher mark for that 2nd doesn’t
make his life look any easier in handicaps. 7F looks his favoured
trip he has gone well over a mile before and the conditions should
be ideal underfoot for him today but the race panning out and the
fact a furlong less would be more ideal just puts that element of
doubt about him following up his maiden win last time.
My Tissue Price – 12/1
8 – Minnis Bay – Has been
going well this season and a solid looking 2nd at Kempton over this
trip should have him with his supports for this handicap today off
the same mark. The winner of that handicap could be highly
progressive and well a handicapped and Minnis Boy a winner the time
before when beating Nicanda from the front where he was given the
run of the race at Bath. Not likely to have the race all his own way
today up front and may need further improvement having benefited
from his two runs over a mile with having had races ran to suit.
My Tissue Price – 8/1
9 – Titan Triumph – Made a
good impression sweeping to the front from last to first at this
track over 7F was running on strongly at the finish to suggest that
he may well be better over a mile at this course then the 7F in a
strongly contested low grade handicap last time. A 6lb penalty may
not be enough to slow him up and his trainer is always well
respected at this track with this type of runners, Richard Hughes
keeps the ride having ended his jinx here and with a mile set to
suit he may well follow up. The tongue-tie kept on.
My Tissue Price – 4/1
10 – Lazy Darren – been a
frustrating horse so far this season and even with the narrowing of
the weight for age he has claims at reversing the form with
Glencalvie here today having been dropped 3lbs for a last place at
Newmarket where he never travelled and had his previous form turned
round quite significantly by the progressive Lap of Honour. Better
then what he showed that day he is below his Chepstow mark when an
impressive winner and the headgear hasn’t worked the trick so far.
Based on the Windsor run he shouldn’t be far away after hanging his
chance away and with these traits being a concern over his wellbeing
he may be best caught after being given a longer break in between
his races and it will be interesting to see if no headgear helps as
well.
My Tissue Price – 16/1
11 – Empire Dancer – Yarmouth
scorer failed to build on that win under a 3lbs rise in the weights
in a poor looking race at Chepstow last time in which he finished
3rd in to the exposed sands of Barra. Handles the ground and trip
well enough he has been very well held at this level so far and
needs to find some improvement from a small setup that has done very
well with limited runners at this track so far. Marc Halford helps
at the weights.
My Tissue Price – 20/1
Tissue – Titan Triumph 4/1, Music Note, Salient 6/1,
Minnis Bay, Don’t Panic, Hansomelle 8/1, Murrin 10/1, Spriggan,
Glencalvie 12/1, Lazy Darren 16/1, Empire Dancer 20/1.
Verdict – An open
looking handicap with a few promising types in the race, Titan
Triumph came from last to first here last time in a keenly contested
low grade handicap and won with a bit in hand. He looks progressive
and this extra furlong will suit his style of running. Music Note
could be drawn into a battle up front, but deserves to land a
handicap like this, on the gallant form already shown this season.
Sailent is another who wouldn’t be far away from winning, Don’t
Panic adds a little bit of spice to the race, from a yard on top
form with 3yo this season.
Selection –
Music Note 2pts win @ 20-1 (BF22.0)
Well Chief
