3.30 Yarmouth Handicap Sprint
Class 4 (3yo+ 0-85) 6F Good/ good to firm
1 - Obe Gold - A useful horse
in his younger days and ran well last term in the Stewards cup at
Goodwood. when only beaten 2L in a top handicap. Long losing run has
resulted in him being down to his lowest career mark and is still in
training with Mick Channon. Providing the ground doesn't turn on to
the slow side of good, he should have ideal conditions to give his
running. Beat Adantino last time at Ascot and this results as a
easier assignment than that race, so he must give his running with
much in his favour, but he has a regressive profile to overcome.
Tissue Price - 6/1
2 - Two Step Kid - Has had
problems and made no impression off a winning mark last time over 7F
behind Wavetree Warrior. Has solid form in his old days over today's
trip and still with Jeremy Noseda, whose yard is in good form at
present. Just one of a few in this race who has got something to
prove. He goes well fresh, which means the absence of 149 days
shouldn't be a negative. Seb Sanders goes well for the yard and this
is by far his easiest task, since missing a season, but his ability
has to be taken on trust.
Tissue price - 8/1
3 - Adantino - Runs for the
in-form Millman yard and has to overcome a poor run last time at
Ascot, where he was squeezed out and lost his placing before being
eased. Could reverse the form with Obe gold on that running, as the
race could be discounted and a repeat of the performance that
he put up at Windsor, would have him back to winning ways, in this
handicap full of exposed types. Back to within 2lbs of his last
winning mark and handles the ground well enough to be of interest in
this handicap, for a trainer that does well with his limited runners
at the track. Partnered with a claimer who gets on well with the
horse and is a potential winner of this handicap today.
Tissue Price - 4/1
4 - Connect - The old boy of
this field is showing signs that time is catching up with him. Twice
a winner at this track, going back quite a few years and is suited
to the flat galloping track, where he has to be of interest with the
ground in his favour here. Goes well at this time of year, with six
wins in handicaps during these summer months and will be hoping to
get the strong pace he is favoured by here. Partnered with a
claimer, to help at the weights, he was never figuring in his last
run at Newmarket, but finds himself well weighted with Guildstern on
that running and has claims, even though the race may suit his
opponent here.
Tissue price- 8/1
5 - Don Pele - Caught the eye
late on, when beaten by Dig Deep at Ascot last time over 5F and that
was his best run for his current trainer, after regressing for
leaving the Kevin Ryan yard. That run is possibly the best form
going into this race and the extra furlong is likely to suit, while
on top of the ground is ideal for his action. The jockey booking
however, isn't one that is noted for Ron Harris and even though well
handicapped on his old form, he is up against other exposed types
who are equally well handicapped on their current marks.
Tissue price - 6/1
6 - Figaro Flyer - Likely to
be suited to the run of the race and entitled to reverse the form
with Don Pele, the extra furlong will be to his liking as well as
the ground. Well weighted with Adantino on Windsor running, but not
certain to reverse the form on that running, as his rival that day
had a bit in hand, when running away with that handicap. Better
ground will suit him, with a chance to reverse the Newmarket form
with two of his rivals today and is on his all weather handicap mark
here, but potentially better suited to the artificial surface then
turf.
Tissue price - 7/1
7 - Guildstern - Has the pace
to cause a few of these a problem, but comes from a stable that
doesn't do too well at this track. Has form with several of these,
and has been held at a lower level then he contests today, as well
as being beaten at this level. Has a good 2nd behind Glenbuck over
7F at this track and is well handicapped based on his win, off a
5lbs higher mark, at Newmarket, where he had Figaro Flyer well
beaten in behind under Ryan Moore. Not in that form this term, based
on runs where he has had everything in his favour and may have to
settle for a minor role at best here.
Tissue price - 12/1
8 - Everygrainofsand - One
runner who is unexposed and could be up to winning this weak affair
today, with mainly rivals on the down grade. John Best does well at
this track and the experienced handling of Ted Durcan at a track he
does well at, is eye catching, even though George Baker has proven
to be the regular booking for this horse in the past. Beaten last
time in a decent handicap on the Poly track, where he made the
running and didn't last home over 7F. This drop back to 6F should
suit, having shaped so well at Windsor, when beaten a length by a 70
rated winner and has improvement to come to be able to win of this
mark of 72.
Tissue Price - 4/1
9 - Ten Shun - Will be hoping
for rain having won with some ease in the ground, as well as a good
2nd to Pamir at Windsor on soft ground, so if the ground stays on
the quick side of good, it could be difficult to see him winning.
Paired with Stephen Donohoe, who has a good record on this horse.
This is a tougher task, than the easy races he has raced in and
doesn't look a progressive type to win over a mark of 70.
Tissue Price - 14/1
10 - High Ridge - Form behind
China Cherub took a timely boost for this exposed campaigner, who
stuck on at the one pace when encountering the very fast ground at
Bath behind Roman Maze a race that has stood up well so far. Claimer
results in him having a low weight and is already 2lbs below his
best winning handicap mark already, as he tries to overcome a 17 run
losing streak here today. Handles the ground well and as with all
Milton Bradley sprinters, is respected in handicap like this,
especially with his solid form at tracks like this, and is
interesting if returning to his best form of last year.
Tissue Price - 10/1
Tissue - Everygrainofsand, Adantino 4/1, Don Pele, Obe
Gold 6/1, Figaro Flyer 7/1, Connect, Two Step Kid 8/1, High Ridge
10/1, Guildstern 12/1, Ten Shun 14/1.
Verdict – A
handicap full of exposed types who are falling down the handicap and
it makes for an open betting heat. Quite a few of these have met
before and the form is quite well linked, to get a idea where each
stands. Adantino may have finished behind Obe Gold last time, but is
still well treated enough to make his presence felt, as the bare
facts of the race do not tell the total story. Jim Best does well at
the track and his Everygrainofsand is the potential improver in this
race today.
