Society English Summer National (Handicap
chase) Listed Race (Class 1) (5yo+) Heavy
1 - Ballycassidy -
Experienced handicapper after failing to hold his own at the highest
level and is most probably just a shade past his best these day's
and may need some help from the handicapper. The ground today is
likely to be very testing underfoot and with a horse who is usually
best followed through out the summer the ground surprisingly has
gone against him in a race he has no doubt been laid out for. Back
on a winning mark the usual jockey booking of Tom O'Brien has been
replaced by a claimer helping to take some much needed weight off,
but his chance has more or less been washed away.
My Tissue Price - 22/1
2 - Classified - Smart
hurdler who has improved immensely so far over fences and has to put
behind a poor handicap performance last time where he was in the
rear and still ever so slightly novice still at his fences and was
no surprise to see Timmy Murphy pull him up that day. Worth another
try in handicaps and certain to have gained experience from that run
and with him being effective in carrying weight and handling ground
such as this he has some claims if responding to the first time
blinkers. The trip is unknown but he does stay well.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
3 - Take the Stand - Another
who is most probably past his best and the Gold Cup runner up from
3yrs ago is best under good to firm ground and these conditions are
likely to have him struggle to stay this marathon trip. The left
handed tracksuits being a course and distance winner in his younger
years on quick ground and based on the run behind Baron Windrush in
which he chased the leader before rapidly weakening out of
contention in the final half mile and is another Peter Bowen had in
mind for this race on quick conditions no doubt.
My Tissue Price - 33/1
4 - Colonel Frank - Non Runner
5 - Mr Ed - Last of the trio
for Peter Bowen and was last seen having a prep on the flat over 2M
at Haydock in which he never got competitive in and should be spot
on today for this race in terms of fitness. The mount of Tom O'Brien
so you would imagine the stables number one chance in this race.
Hasn't encounter ground as soft as this since his hurdling days but
shaped as though he handles it to a good level based on Chepstow
hurdling run (course gets very testing). Yet to really prove as good
over fences as hurdles but a horse that thrives this time of year
and enjoys big field handicaps as this and if staying the trip could
have a good chance here. Peter Bowen has a good record in handicap
chases.
My Tissue price - 16/1
6 - My Immortal - The second
of three runners for David Pipe in this race as he bids to get some
much needed prize money early doors while Paul Nicholls awaits in
the wings. Been improving in novice company of late and is very much
a useful performer when given the right conditions underfoot and
even though by Monsun I have some concerns on the ground being to
testing for him to get home today. On the upgrade and goes very well
for Tom Scudermore he needs to prove that he has the stamina for
these marathon distances after getting outstayed last time at Bangor
over a trip that was over 3M in a small field muddling affair.
Suited to big fields when ever running in them and is a interesting
inclusion in this race.
My tissue price - 12/1
7 - Hautclan - A mighty
impressive scorer here over hurdles when beating itsmyboy and
landing a gamble that day. The testing ground today should suit
based on French form and the fact he ran very well behind Too
Forward over 21F at Wetherby on soft ground so there is reason to
believe he will be suited today to the track and the conditions
which is a major plus. Looks to be very much a small field horse
with all his best form being in single figure fields and there has
to be some fears over him seeing out this trip today with a strong
pace and a stout staying type needed and with all his best
performances around 2.5M to 3M there is doubt that he will see this
staying marathon out well enough. Stable in form and Mccoy is always
respected and was still travelling well last time when brought down.
My Tissue price - 10/1
8 - Kock De La Vesvre -
Landed a easy race at Towcester where the stable chasers are always
spot on and won easier then the winning distance suggested as he
idles when in front after coming away at the bottom of the hill.
Some brilliant jumping showed that he was very much in good heart
with himself and is widely respected in this race today as he is
still very well handicapped on old form and looks as good as old and
still only 9yo so age shouldn't have caught him up just yet. The
trip is the main concern having failed at his only attempt over this
trip and given that a horse by Sassisan has failed to win over 3M
distances but these conditions see him to his best and Sam Thomas
continues in the plate.
My Tissue Price - 5/1
9 - Matt The Thrasher -
Another that was pulled up in the Perth Gold Cup in which Kock de La
Vesvre finished 2nd and will be looking to bounce back to form with
the weights more in his favour today against that rival. Was
progressing along nicely on firm ground before that Perth run and
has to have some concerns with the going today but stands his ground
in this race so maybe the yard believe he will get home on this
ground today in a much tougher race then he had been winning. Trip
is uncharted territory today but the yards are always respected at
this track.
My Tissue Price - 25/1
10 - Tribal Venture - One of
those horses who can be brilliant one minute and then just plain
lazy the next and has to have everything to his liking to give his
true running and that is no different today. Low weighted which is a
big help, surprisingly Richard Johnson has failed to get this horse
going well in the past and his style of handling seems to not suit
this horse and was beaten by Tanterari in his best ride on the horse
which was last year. Tom O'Brien seems to get the best out of this
horse but he rides for Peter Bowen today. Finished 5th in this race
last year behind the stout staying Mckelevey on Peter Bowen in which
the ground was on the fast side and even though running well last
time on good to firm ground the softer conditions are more to his
suiting but wouldn't want it maybe this testing. Stays well enough
and yard always respected here.
My Tissue Price - 10/1
11 - Champagne Harry - Non-Runner
12 - Rare Society - Earned
his chance in this race after a very good run to finish 3rd in the
Perth Gold Cup and meets and meets the 2nd on 5lbs better terms
today. The claimer takes the weight to below 10 stone, which is
going to be a massive bonus for today's race. Handles give in the
ground and jumps boldly from the front his stamina will need to hold
out in this race which is sure to be a gruelling test and that has
to be a slight concern as he didn't get home at Perth and stamina is
the main concern here.
My Tissue Price - 12/1
13 - Waynesworld - Non-Runner
14 - Red Echo - Last of the 3 runners saddled in this race by
David Pipe and has a bit of ground to make up on Matt The Thrasher
based on Wincanton form but has the weights in his favour today.
Claimer takes him down to a nice low weight on ground that wouldn't
be regarded as the most ideal conditions for him having failed to
really handle it in the past. Needs a left-handed track the low
weight gives him claims in this race today.
My tissue Price - 16/1
15 - Inaro - JP Mcmanus has
allowed Tony Mccoy ride for Trevor Hemmings today and that could
spell out that the horse isn't fancied today. However the jockey
booked has won on the horse already and the low weight and previous
good efforts on the soft ground gives him better claims then the
booking suggests and it is possible that Mccoy couldn't do the
weight here today. A winner over 4M and with some good course runs
Inaro has to be a leading player here for a yard that does so well
with chasers here and is in very good form at present.
My Tissue Price - 6/1
16 - Dead Eyed Dick - Stays
all day and is back on a winning mark and very rarely runs a bad
race at this track, the low weight gives him strong claims and the
bottomless ground is very much to his liking. Christian Williams
results as a positive booking for this horse and there is every
chance that this horse could bounce back to form but has to be taken
on trust in finding his feet again here today, but has a lot in
favour to do so.

Verdict – Tough
staying race today and any stamina lacking horses will be found out
and weight should count for a lot today with those at the head of
the weights in the main exposed handicappers who prefer a sounder
surface then likely today so the bottom end of the handicap looks
the best place to be. Of those at the top end of the weights
Classified holds the best chance and 20-1 looks a big price here
today.

Inaro 1pt @ 6-1
