3.30 GNER Sealton Delaval Trophy Handicap Class 2 (4yo+, 0-100)
1 – European Dream – Went for
the lesser race over this mile on Lincoln day in which he hacked up
in really good style and now finds himself in the situation where he
has got to give weight away to rivals who contested the feature race
on that card. Under a penalty for following up a good win At Ripon
by scraping home as his stamina came into play but never really
travelled as well as he usually does and this quick turn out under a
penalty is surprise as he is the type to improve for time in between
his races.
My Tissue Price – 6/1
2 – Zero Tolerance – Has ran
here twice and shouldn’t be dismissed on those efforts as both can
be put down to needing the run and the latest one a very tough ask
to give lumps of weight away in a competitive early season handicap
such as the Lincoln. Likely to be better prepared this time with
rivals such as Rio Riva and stuck around for a very long time in a
handicap at York that the 2nd has ran well on ground too quick and
the winner has followed up and adding to the fact that the Lincoln
winner was beaten behind him this day shows that form wise the
Lincoln run isn’t a great guide. Well handicapped in terms of mark
and coming here in much fitter and better form and will have
freshened up after a 42-day break. Small fields suit.
My Tissue Price – 2/1
3 – Swing the Ring – Not a
lot to know about this new recruit to the Alan Berry yard and was
well beaten in only British start last season at York Behind Quito
in a listed class affair. Handicapper has allotted him quite a high
mark most probably using this race. Hard to know just what to expect
on handicap debut in this country as he was given some hard races in
his native Germany as well as other countries including here. Market
noted and yet to be gelded.
My Tissue Price – 33/1
4 – Rio Riva – Has to have
the beating of Zero Tolerance on Lincoln form and you would imagine
should have the beating of European Dream on revised marks from
their encounter at Ripon, However Rio Riva who has the best course
form based on that 2nd in the Lincoln is very much needing a strong
pace to be at his best as he could never muster enough effort of a
average pace at Ripon. The last run can be discounted as the track
wouldn’t have been ideal and if he were to bounce back to form then
a straight stiff mile would be the track to do so. Best when fresh
the 5lbs weight swing in favour of Zero Tolerance isn’t a positive
for today’s race.
My Tissue Price – 5/1
5 – Kings Point – Adopted new
tactics last time at York to not get drawn into a pace battle with
Zero Tolerance and could never get on terms and finished another 4L
back behind Zero Tolerance who was out pointed at the business end.
Not as good as old and exposed as a 6yo his best performances have
come on good to firm ground so he has something to find on today’s
conditions.
My Tissue Price – 16/1
6 – Best Prospect – Didn’t
shape to badly on his only start over a mile in a big field in which
he helped to force the pace up front and may need to go from the
front here even though it is very uncertain that he will have enough
pace early on to trouble Zero Tolerance up front and is likely to
struggle to contain that rival today. Weighted up to his best form
over 10F this drop back isn’t likely to improve him further. Jamie
Spencer a notable absentee but Philip Makin does ride him well and
he goes on a variety of ground but the handicapper looks to have his
measure even though against in the main a load of exposed types.
My Tissue Price – 16/1
7 – St Andrews – Many people
have gone over a cliff following this horse who has a serious
regressive profile having failed in his last 11 attempts to get his
head back in front. Goes well in the Autumn when he has his right
type of ground he will appreciate this soft summer ground which he
doesn’t usually get and has to have claims even though ideally would
like it like a Bog underfoot. Michael Jarvis must have a lot of time
for this horse as he is now 7yo and doesn’t in general have a horse
in training for this long so he must feel the candle still burns
bright with this horse. Well beaten by Zero Tolerance at Haydock
last year in a muddling race in which he is only 4lbs better off at
the weight for today and struggled to get close to European Dream on
Good racing ground at Ripon to which he has a massive weight pull
with today.
My Tissue Price – 6/1
8 – Moody Tunes – Karl burke
landed some monster odds yesterday including the Paris Bell at
Carlisle with Bold Marc who has close form lines with this horse
based on the defeat at Haydock and with Moody Tunes winning twice
since the form was well franked for Bold Marc in Hindsight to go
well at big odds yesterday. Moody Tunes obviously wouldn’t have been
as well handicapped for that race and this rate as a much tougher
ask for him given the rivals and while progressive he has a similar
profile to Speedy Sam who failed to live up to this level despite
being a decent handicapper.
My Tissue Price – 10/1
9 – Hassard – Non-Runner
Tissue – Zero Tolerance 2/1FAV, Rio Riva 5/1, St Andrews,
European Dream 6/1, Moody Tunes 10/1, Best Prospect, Kings Point
16/1, Swing the Ring 33/1
Verdict – Swing
the ring gives us a touch of the unknown for this handicap, and is
best watched in the market for any clues. Kings Point & Best
Prospect will have easier assignments given to them when the
conditions of the race are ideal. Moody Tunes comes from a in-form
yard, but has a bit to find on the improvement front, while the
claimer booking by Rae Guest shows that there is a concern that the
handicapper has caught up with his horse. This quick turn out under
a claimer is maybe a case of the stable finishing the horse off for
the season in terms of winning, as he most probably is just below
pattern class. Rio Riva and St Andrews represent the main dangers to
Zero Tolerance but everything is set for a big run from the jolly
today.
Selection –
Zero Tolerance 2pts @ 5-2
