3.30 Musselburugh Barclays
Wealth Handicap class 4 (4yo+ 0-85) 7F good
1 – Il Castango – Won well
last time when blasting his field from the front and looks very much
like a horse on the upgrade at present. Same Jockey for today is a
bonus as he gets on very well with the horse and on collateral form
has to be one of the leading players in this small run affair as he
has good speed figures to his name. Brian Smart runners continue in
good heart and he still looks fairly handicapped on form here.
However the change in conditions and the trip for today’s race has
him fairly rated behind a few of these and with maybe a bigger field
in behind which helps for them to beat each other with traffic
problems, he has a hard task to defy top weight and follow up last
win in which he had Stonic Leader well beaten in behind.
My Tissue Price – 4/1
2 – Stonehaugh – Non-Runner
3 – Stoic Leader – Potentially well handicapped and a course and
distance specialist this horse is well exposed on the handicap front
after well over 120 runs so far in his career and every other runner
in the field should know by now what to expected from this horse. On
recent Collateral form with the likes of Il Castango he has a
mounting to climb to reverse the form even though ground, trip and
course are all more to his liking then his rival and could bounce
back to form to land this prize for a yard that has found it hard to
come by winners in the last month or so. Back below mark when
winning over CD this season but with this being more mid-season and
others being more peaked in conditions, he is very vulnerable to an
improver in this field.
My Tissue Price – 16/1
4 – Fiefdom – Tightly tied in
on form with quite a few of these and some on lbs to lengths isn’t
entitled to reverse the form. 6lbs lower then when last successful
she has much in her favour for a big run today with a good small
field suiting her best. She comes into the race very much in form
having run Ivory Lace close at Lingfield a horse that has gone on to
win again and having achieved what I would consider the best
performance in this field over today’s trip she should go close
under conditions that should suit her providing it doesn’t get any
slower. The jockey for today is 0-7 on the horse and needs to
improve on that record today, but she rates as a big danger here as
she is well handicapped at a track where her trainer doesn’t do to
badly.
My Tissue Price – 100/30
5 – Josh – 0/7 on the all
weather so there should be an improved performance to come from this
horse now back on turf for Kevin Ryan and Neil Callen. Handles the
ground just as well as any in this field and effective over the trip
so he shouldn’t be without a chance in this race today. First try at
this track makes him interesting but still unsure if the handicapper
has let him in with a chance on this return to the turf as he has
struggled ever since being given a 109 rating from beating Army of
Angles as a 2yo in which he showed much promise. Not really trained
on he finds himself as low as 76 now in this handicap but does come
into this race in form after 4 runs in which he wasn’t disgraced in
on the All weather and is looking to progress on those runs to get
back to winning ways here if the track is ideally to suit (flat
track should help).
My Tissue price – 7/1
6 – Carnivore – Ok level of
form of late after progressing at the back end of last season and is
getting back to fairly decent mark to score off. Fairly exposed now
he does have a good record on good ground which he is well breed for
and over 7F shows a good level of form also even though potentially
may need to find more improvement to be winning this today but is
more then capable of doing so for a yard that has a excellent record
at this track. Has ground to make on Fiefdom on Southwell running
but is 1lb better off for that defeat. Not certain to reverse the
form here he has very little against him in terms of negatives apart
from there is chance that a few are still or will turn out to be
better handicapped today. Good place prospects.
My Tissue Price – 7/2
7 – Tough Love – Another
exposed handicapper in this field and one that is under a penalty
and up in level from that win. Jockey gets on well with the horse
that does well in small fields around this time of year. Only have
fair course form to his name and others have recorded better efforts
here in the past he is an ok horse over this trip on good ground but
may have preferred another furlong at the end and looks very
unlikely to follow up last win as he looks one of the poorest
handicap after winning a weaker event last time.
My Tissue Price – 6/1
8 – Sea Storm – Non-Runner
9 – Violent Velocity – John
Quinn is turning out handicap winners at all the main meetings at
the moment and his runners are always worth noting and he has a fine
record around this course also. Horse is up there with one of better
performances at this track and the fact he gets weight all-round
here helps him out as others come into the race in better form.
Handicapped only fairly on last win here in a easier race he still
has claims for some improvement to come being not overly exposed
over trip and ground in this race. Graham Gibbons is a good jockey
for John Quinn and they have a strong strike rate in handicaps.
However bigger fields may be more required for him to be at his best
from a speed angle.
My Tissue Price – 6/1
Tissue Prices – Fiefdom 100/30, Carnivore 7/2, Il Castango
4/1, Tough Love, Violent Velocity 6/1, Josh 7/1, Stonic Leader 16/1
Verdict – Tight
little seven-runner affair with the non-runners and Fiefdom is
likely to go well as she is very well handicapped. Even though in
the last week it has been hard to locate the right value there seems
to be good value in josh at 15-2 and including Violent Velocity at
7-1.
Selection –
Josh 1pt @ 8-1 (BF 7.8-1) &
Fiefdom 1pt @ 11-2 (BF 7-1).
Well Chief
