5.10 Bath Tote Text Handicap
class 4 (3yo+ 0-85) 5F 161yrds Firm
1 - Golden Dixie - on a
losing run after excelling at the start of last season and is being
given a chance by the handicap in this grade of race as he finds
himself 2lbs lower in the handicap now then when winning a class 3
handicap at York last season and if returning to that kind of form
has to be of interest in this race albeit given the difficult task
of having to concede weight all round in this handicap. Ran a
creditable race at Salisbury last time and could well be up to
confirming the form of that race with a few of these under Luke
Morris a very capable claimer of 5lbs. The very firm ground at Bath
isn't the most ideal conditions for this horse and his trainer isn't
one that you look for here.
My tissue price - 14/1
2 - Roman Maze - Has a couple
of lengths to find with Golden Dixie on Sailsbury running and has
champion jockey Ryan Moore booked to get the job done. Still
entitled to go well from a handicapping prospective and a chance
that this track and conditions could help him to reverse the form
with Golden Dixie and the field size is certainly more likely to
suit and if not finding trouble like he did in the Sailsbury race he
could well reverse the form with much in favour and a favourable
handicap mark with a trainer who has a fair record here.
My Tissue Price - 6/1
3 - Pic Up Sticks - Another
to come out of that Salisbury race in which I found the form of
Brendan Powell runner the worse of many in that race and the stable
form is very much one to be concerned about at this moment in time
with them having a cold period. Handicapped to well on old form his
form has been poor recently and is very much need to return to form
to expose the lenient mark these days. The firm conditions are
likely to suit and there is no problem with trip or course so there
should be no reason why he shouldn't run a big race.
My Tissue Price - 20/1
4 - Mine Behind - Has been
contesting races that are just out of his reach these days and with
his better sprint days behind him this drop in to class 4 company
should help him to rediscover some of his old zest. The jockey
booking is very good for the horse style and this course is very
much ideal for his running style and is 1-1 here. Handicapped to go
well in this company and handles the field size well as a strong
pace is needed and rates as one that could well run a big race
today.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
5 - Whose Winning - Another
from the struggling yard of Brendan Powell and that has to count
against this horse today. The jockey gets on well with the horse and
firm ground conditions such as these don't count against the horse
in the slightest and this trip is ideal. Handicapped up to his best
he still has claims if getting the run of the race but quite often
has found one too good here and that was when better handicapped on
form so he may just struggle to win this today.
My Tissue Price - 11/1
6 - Saviours Spirit - took
for ever to get going last time when beaten by Mujood at Goodwood
and is starting to look like he isn't as good as his all weather
achievements and may be handicapped up to his best on turf. The
change in Jockey for this stable isn't a eye catcher even though
Steve Drowne does well at this track . Trip & ground shouldn't
be to much to overcome and this track should suit given that its
quite a quick track and he does have plenty of pace.
My Tissue Price - 8/1
7 - Ludovico - Has to turn
around his form in which he was well beaten of his high turf mark in
which he trailed in last of 9 and may need a return to lower class
races as he was going into the race having had a confidence booster
albeit in a race that he was totally entitled to shine in. From a
yard that knows how to win Bath sprint handicaps and one of just a
few runners in this race today. The Jockey booking isn't one that
would say that he is the leading player from the yard but the drop
back in trip is eye catching as I believe the sharper test will suit
better then the mile did last time and rates as one to note but the
handicapper hasn't taken to many chances with this horse and future
handicaps may be the best time to catch him.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
8 - Imperial Gain -
Non-runner
9 - Fairfield Princess -
Unexposed 3yo taking on older horses at a track such as Bath is
never one I look a positive placement and that is mainly because if
she was anything special she would be contesting better all age
handicaps at the main tracks through out the country. Trainer does
well in all age handicaps and does badly in 3yo races here so you
can see just why they have given the go ahead in this race as the
trainer knows what it takes to win races such as this. Comes into
the race of the back of a poor effort in a similar race to this and
there was no excuses as she was struggling from the start. Unexposed
so no reason to not see an improvement today.
My Tissue Price - 25/1
10 - High Ridge - Ground,
trip and course are all big bonus for this horse from Milton Bradley
yard and as already touched on the trainer is a master of winning
handicaps at this very track. Starting to look handicapped to win
races again and with good level of form in these size fields and
with recent runs under the belt should be getting back to fitness to
strike off. Still needs a little help from the handicapper the
jockey booking is to take that into account as the lad is 0-2 on the
horse so far and isn't usually booked for this horse when he finally
wins again. Place chances today with much in favour.
My Tissue Price - 8/1
11 - Welcome Approach - has
been knocking on the door of late and was just denied by Desert opal
at Beverley over 5F and seems to have paid for that with the
handicapper as he has been put back up for not winning and that
looks once again to put pay to the chances of this horse today. The
trainer isn't one that has winners at the track and after this run
today he could be re handicapped to make him a better betting chance
when given a uphill finishing track that seems to suit over the
track.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
12 - Rainbow Bay - Comes into
the race in good form having had back-to-back wins over 6F at
Catterick and seems to be going the right way at present and the
young lad on top is looking for a hatrick of wins on the horse. The
handicapper has put him up another 6lbs but he looks still well
handicapped and can go well once again here today and is the most
inform horse coming into the race. The course change isn't certain
to suit, as the sharp track of catterick wouldn't resemble the
galloping sprint track of bath and that has to be the biggest
concern for the hatrick bid today as the ground shouldn't be to much
of a problem with the breeding.
My Tissue price - 6/1
13 - Summer Recluse - The
last of the trio of runners in this race for Milton Bradley and one
that lost the last race at the start at Sailsbury when last of 17.
that run was to bad to be true and he is certainly capable of better
based on some of the form from last season and is certainly to be
better for the run and a return to this track which is the main
positive along with the firm ground. The trip is another bonus as is
the falling mark to 2lbs below the last winning handicap mark and
with receiving of weight all round and a field size he does very
well in has a better chance this time around.
My Tissue Price - 10/1
Verdict – Not a
bad handicap for this track and one that has littered with Milton
Bradley handicappers over the year and each one of his runners will
be in the winning enclosure over the next 12 months and most
probably will be at this track. Roman Maze looks to come out on top
on the Salisbury run and the 10-1 in places looks to be good value
while Rainbow Bay has a tougher ask this time around and looks to
skinny at 7/2 along with Saviours Spirit and has helped to create
some value further down. Summer Recluse looks the best priced of the
trip from Milton's yard and any 20-1 around is worth taking for this
race while Mine Behind is about right and results as having a
chance.
Selection –
Roman Maze 1pt win @ 10-1 (BF11's) & Summer
Recluse 1pt @ 20-1 (BF 54's).
Well Chief
