Handicap
Class 4 (4yo+ 0-85) Gd - FM
1 - Ashes Regained - Ran on
strongly under a typical Jamie Spencer ride at wolverhampton and
needed that extended mile to get home in front and should appreciate
this galloping mile course of Newbury and rates as one of the main
players in this race despite the fact he has to carry top weight in
this big field handicap. The big field suits and he is sure to
improve more for the return to turf as he is unexposed and rates as
a potential winner of this handicap.
My Tissue price - 5/1
2 - Macedon - Another one
that is open to some improvement being relatively lightly raced. The
big field will suit given the run in the spring cup behind Pinpoint
on first run of this season and has to be rated as a disappointment
based on the last run at Haydock in which he was well beaten and has
to turn around his form based on that run. Has a good chance based
on the Newbury run and a reproduction of that run could see Macedon
give his trainer first win at this track but has to be rated as
disappointing on the last run.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
3 - Cross the Line - 18lbs
high in the handicap since winning on the turf and has saved his
winning for the all weather which has helped him to have this high
handicap mark on turf and the consistence he shows doesn't help his
cause either. Big fields such as this have him always running well
as he gets covered up before bursting through from out of the pack
and there should be no reason why he won't make another threatening
move in this race. Upped in the handicap again for a close 2nd to
Hassard in a race that is yet to really get to many positives from.
Alan Jarvis never really picks up many races at this track but the
jockey booking is eye catching but the handicapper never can give
this horse to much rope and it is likely he will be giving way to
something better weighted.
My Tissue Price - 8/1
4 - Habshan - Was well beaten
behind Cross the Line at Ascot on first run this season and is sure
to give a better account after skinning fitter for that outing.
Better weighted with Cross the Line on that running he is starting
to look well handicapped to be winning some time soon. The ground is
likely to be ideal and he has much in favour for a return to this
track that his trainer does so well at and George Baker rates as a
good booking for this horse and his chance is better then the last
run suggests.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
5 - Chief Commander - Hard to
make a solid case for this horse other then the return of Jimmy
Quinn to the saddle as the stable is out of form at this moment in
time with the field size, ground and trip and a galloping mile all
negatives in the make up of this horse that is plummeting down the
handicap but hasn't got enough in hand just yet to overcome such
negatives as these and he is my rag in this field today.
My Tissue Price - 40/1
6 - Gaelic Princess - Has
quite a few things to like about her chances today as she enjoys
quick ground and stays this mile well, she has a good jockey booked
for her and she does handle galloping tracks well even though a
stiffer course is most probably the most ideal for her such as
Sailsbury. She is starting to look well handicapped on some of her
older form but she has to improve on her recent effort at Ascot
which she never looked like winning in but she does have some claims
with the already noted change in conditions for her last run behind
Heaven Sent.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
7 - Lopinot - Was hacked up
behind Nawaqees last time and then weakened tamely at Goodwood and
you could excuse that run and give the horse another chance based on
his all weather form. Meets his conqueror on 9lbs better terms for a
18L defeat and does have some small claims of turning around that
form here. Ted Durcan is in for the ride and the galloping track
should suit despite him flopping here in the past. The all-weather
form needs to be transferred having flopped on turf a few times now.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
8 - Nawaqees - Won out a good
winner last time under Richard Hills who keeps the ride and has a
good record on this horse for top Newbury trainer of handicaps John
Dunlop. Handicapped to still go well despite the rise in the weights
and ground and trip to suit on a galloping track that should suit he
is certain to go well here today. Same class just more weight for
today's race he rates as having a solid chance in this race with the
field size a positive.
My Tissue Price - 7/2
9 - Bold Diktator - Richard
Thoms gets the leg up for the first time on this horse and the
jockey has been doing very well for Tom Dascombe so it's a
interesting booking for today's race. Handicapped to give a good
account of himself and fitness, course, ground and trip all likely
not to cause to much problem it's basically looking a case that the
ground was the cause for the poor effort last time and the return to
this quicker surface in which he has won on bringing him back to his
best and rates as a possible for a place today.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
10 - Tempsford Flyer - Course
and distance winner when narrowly beating the progressive Robustian
by a head in a very close finish and has some form to turn around
with Ashes Regained based on the all weather run last time. Weighted
very much to do so back on turf he has little more to offer in the
way of improvement and may not have enough to reverse the form to
lbs to lengths he has back in his favour. However he is handicapped
to win and has better claims back here on turf and is hard to find
to many negatives and rates as having a good chance in this today.
My Tissue Price - 7/1
11 - Don Pietro - Should be
ready for this race today given how well he goes fresh and is a very
consistent horse if not very hard to win with. Handles all type of
ground and effective over this trip, the galloping track should suit
on a straight mile and big fields are another reason to be
confident. Handicapped to give his best running as the handicapper
just keeps niggling along with his gradual progression and he should
be there about in this handicap today.
My Tissue Price - 10/1
12 - Glenmuir - Best around a
sharp track and not one to really shine on a galloping track in the
past and is handicapped to win again if still retaining his form
when winning at chester he has to turn around his form and with the
conditions of this race and a big field all looking like related
negatives to this event it is hard to make any sort of case for this
horse even with all Rod Milman runners running out of their skin at
this moment in time.
My Tissue Price - 25/1
13- Baron Spy - Runs his
heart out and keeps going under pressure but often fails to get his
head in front to often. Tolley Dean is in for the ride and doesn't
look a too positive booking for a horse that runs well but isn't
handicapped to win this today in my view. Yet to win on good to firm
but capable on this ground the head defeat to Bold marc last time
isn't the strongest of form going in to this race and the 2nd at
Bath was in a poor race with the winner a clear cut victor. Handles
galloping tracks and has form in bigger fields so the conditions of
the race are to suit he just looks held as the winner of this race
as its his toughest task so far this season.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
14 - San Antonio - Well
beaten on the all weather by Lopinot over 8F at Lingfield but gets a
big swing in the weights here and is proven on turf where as that
rival isn't so there should be a better showing from Pam Sly charge
here. Micky Fenton has ridden the horse plenty of times before in
the past but to no success and the stable are not renowned for their
Newbury winners so there are a couple more negatives. The run last
time at Newmarket was a return to form and he isn't too badly
handicapped. Vulnerable to a improver given his exposed profile and
he has got better form else where including when ran on a stiff
track rather then a galloping track such as Newbury. The quick
ground is ideal and he sees a mile out well so a bold bid is well
expected here.
My tissue Price - 14/1
15 - Cool Ebony - Firm ground
scorer receives weight all-round here and comes into the race having
ran a solid race behind Malcheek at Thirsk which isn't the worse
piece of form around. Handles Good to firm ground and this trip is
more ideal then the 7F he ran over last time so has some claims
receiving weight all-round here. Not the best-handicapped horse in
the race the jockey booking is a positive one and the stable don't
do to badly with their runners here.
My Tissue Price - 10/1
Verdict – An
open handicap in which many have chances and should be tight in the
market. Nawaqees has solid claims and comes here in good form while
Ashes Regained and Cross the Line are the two other class horses in
the race, however the weights seem to be favouring the likes of
Tempsford Flyer who has a solid chance of reversing the run at
Wolverhampton here and stands as some value in price. Don Pietro has
claims also on the value side of things with his price looking
rather big.
Selection – Nawaqees
1pt @ 7-1 (BF 8.0) & Tempsford Flyer
1pt @ 12-1 (BF 14.5)
