Champions League
Preview - 12 Dec 2007
PSV
Eindhoven v Inter Milan
Early bet at a price that can't last. Serie A leaders have been
priced up at 11/4 for their trip to struggling PSV Eindhoven.
Presumably because they have nothing much to play for, and will take
to the field without the likes of Ibrahimovic, Vieira and Figo. I
suppose the argument is that PSV 'have to win'. That may be true,
but once Fenerbahce take care of a CSKA side with only 12 fit
players inside the first half, is the motivation going to be there
for PSV? And even if Fenerbahce do present the Dutch side a
lifeline, are they really good enough to take advantage? They're a
shadow of the side that knocked Arsenal out of last years
competition. This is a side that were hammered at home to Roda at
the weekend. To make matters worse, striker Danny Koevermans
strained a hamstring in training and is very doubtful, while
Ghanaian midfielder Eric Addo is suspended.
Despite the unavailable players, and the lack of any clear
motivation, the Inter price has gone too far. The vibes coming out
of the Italians' camp are good. Roberto Mancini said "I'm not
interested in experiments, as we definitely want to win. I will pick
the best players available. We have respect for our opponents, and
in a competition like this you should always try and do your best."
These sentiments are echoed by captain Javier Zanetti, who said:
"We're all focused and I, for one, won't be taking things easy just
because we've already qualified."
Recommendation: 2 pts Inter Milan
@ 11/4. Totesport.
