Karlsruhe v
Hertha Berlin. Friday 19:30.
More live Friday night Bundesliga action on Setanta, and it's
surprise packages Karlsruhe hosting Hertha Berlin.
The main object of debate here is, are Karlsruhe in a false
position? With more than a third of the season gone, the
newly-promoted side find themselves rooted firmly in the top four.
There's every reason to suspect that they won't be there in the new
year, but that doesn't mean they should fear a visit from
Eighth-placed Hertha. While the Berliners are strong in the capital,
they're a pretty abysmal outfit on the road (3 points out of a
possible 18). It's tough to say how much they will be affected by
the absences of Brazilians Gilberto and Miniero (who are in no state
to play having featured in World Cup Qualifiers this week), but
top-scorer Marko Pantelic would be a huge loss if he's not freed by
Serbia (who have a re-arranged game against Kazakhstan tomorrow) to
fly in for the night.
Karlsruhe have an important loss of their own in highly-rated
goalkeeper Markus Miller, but are otherwise at full-strength.
Off a 1/4 ball handicap I feel the hosts warrant a small bet,
simply because they still look to be underrated, whilst Hertha are
notoriously poor on the road, and have important absences.
The best value however, once again comes from the player goal
minutes market. There's been a penalty every five games in the
Bundesliga this season, and tonight's ref Michael Weiner has awarded
three in six. It's about time one dropped on a Friday night, and if
it falls in the Karlsruhe box, the likelihood is Hertha midfielder
Chahed will step up. He can be bought at 2 with Sporting Index.
Alternatively, Bet365 go 40/1 with good each-way terms. On the other
side, Karlsruhe defender Eggimann is a big threat from set pieces,
and is a decent price at 4, again with SPIN.
Recommendation: 3pts
Karlsruhe -0.25 @ 2.07.
