Preview - 31 Oct 2007
Take a chance on
stubborn Levante.
The odds are stacked against rock-bottom Levante, but a regional
derby against Villarreal represents the perfect opportunity for the
strugglers to get their season up-and-running.
New coach Gianni De Biasi has a monumental task on his hands,
with the Valencia-based side already seven points from safety.
However, there were encouraging signs in the weekend defeat to
Atletico Madrid, as the free-scoring opponents were restricted to
just a solitary Diego Forlan strike, and put under concerted
second-half pressure.
Having shocked Barcelona at El Madrigal ten days ago, Villarreal
have been unable to keep that form going. A disappointing draw at
home to Fiorentina was followed by a 4-1 thumping at Zaragoza. While
clearly a talented outfit, it's clear that Manuel Pellegrini's side
lack the consistency to challenge for major honours.
Despite notching three consecutives home wins since the Real
Madrid humiliation, the 'Yellow Submarines' haven't necessarily
convinced against the lesser lights (Murcia and Athletic Bilbao).
Both victories were hard-fought. At least compared to the
destruction of Barca. Levante are a physical side that are sure to
provide their near-neighbours with a tough test. Guille Franco (the
non-scoring striker) is being touted to lead the line for
Villarreal, whilst Santi Cazorla - so influential against Barcelona
- is doubtful.
Whilst the hosts should, in theory, have too much for the La Liga
whipping boys, quotes of 1/3 are a little off the mark, about a side
who are yet to prove that they can mix it with the big boys, after
consecutive poor displays.
Bet365 in particular have underrated De Biasi's men by chalking
up 10/1 in the Draw No Bet market.
Villarreal v Levante. Wednesday 19:00.
