Euro
Qualifier 2008 - 17 Oct 2007
Romania to do
just enough.
After the superb 1-0 victory over the Netherlands on Saturday,
Romania are now in pole position in Group G. Barring any slip-ups.
Victor Piturca's men will be playing in Austria and Switzerland next
summer.
A potential banana-skin comes in the form of a trip to
Luxembourg. An easy three points on paper, however it may not be the
best time to be facing the minnows, who come into the game having
produced a mighty shock of their own, winning in Belarus.
Three points is all that matters for Piturca. The
defensive-minded coach will not tale any undue risks in achieving
his ultimate goal, as proved by the ultra-negative system employed
against the Dutch. That ploy proved a masterstroke and, while
Luxembourg hardly carry a goal threat to match Van Nistelrooy and
company, it would make little sense to go gung-ho with so much at
stake. Particularly when his main goalscorer, Adrian Mutu, is
unavailable through suspension. With Nicolita and Codrea also
banned, Romania may just find Luxembourg a tough nut to crack.
Both the Netherlands and Bulgaria could only manage single goal
victories here, and it could pay to work around those formlines.
With Luxembourg unlikely to find a way past a stingy visiting
backline, bank on Romania doing just enough to keep their Euro 2008
dreams ticking over.
Luxembourg v Romania. Wednesday 19:15.
Recommendation: 4pts Under
3.25 goals. @ 1.86. Ladbrokes. 0.75pts 0-1
correct score. @ 10/1. Stan James, Bet365.
